Help me think this through...

We currently own 2 SSR contracts of about 120 points each. (Bought from DVD during Friends & Family promo.)

We love SSR and enjoy the time we spend there. But last time we wanted to book an OKW grand villa, we found we couldn't because they were full by the time our 7 month window came up. We don't really have enough points to book an SSR gv. We know we will want to try again for an OKW GV in the future, and that our chances of getting one are slim. But we don't want/need one for every trip.

We'd also like to increase our current DVC points by just a few. (Like 25-30)So I'm thinking of a couple options:

1. Add on those "few" points through disney. If we do this, which resort? The extra years at SSR are important to us. Plus we really enjoy SSR for most of our trips. BUT I don't think just having 30 points at another resort would be enough to help us with booking windows. (With six kids we always need at least a 2 bedroom, so even with banking and borrowing at another resort, 90 points doesn't get you a 2br or GV very long!) So this solves 1/2 the problem (generally not enough points) but not the other half (the OKW grand villa part.)

2. Sell one of the SSR contracts and buy a 150 point OKW resale contract. I think this would solve my booking window options (bank and borrow heavily, use SSR points for 2-br trips, OKW points for GV trips) BUT not having those extra 12 years on the OKW contract...well...DH wouldn't like that at all!

Opinions, please? Other options I may not have considered?

I'd wait a few months and see if they announce a new resort and likely add on there. You'll be throwing money away if you sell one contract and buy another in this situation but it depends on how set you are on the GV at OKW.

It requires a few more points, but why not stay in the SSR GVs?

I don't know what you should do....

But we just sold our F and F SSR contract (128 points) to buy some BW points. And you know what we really didn't lose a heck of a lot of money (bought at 83.30...sold at $81...commission was 9%). And we too have another SSR contract to use at SSR and other trips. And we also considered giving up some "extra years" but you do have the extra years on the SSR contract you would keep. Plus, our BW points cost more than OKW points resale.

Our point total went down but we are very happy with our decision. We just decided to go for it and not look back. Financially not smart....points total not smart...but happy with it? Smart for us? Yes. Very happy to have the BW points.

And by the way Disney bought it (ROFR the potential buyers) and it was stripped!!!

Could you sell one SSR, buy enough OKW points for the GV every 2-3 years, and wait for the new DVC to add-on for your projected point total.

That would be 12 extra years on that if you liked the new resorts.

So anyway....big decisions....thought our story might help. Best of luck to you.

It really isn't a few more points. There is a large point spread between the two. Unfortunately.

Love those OKW and BW SV Sunday to Friday points.

At the time of year when we go (and we won't be flexible due to kids school schedules for about 15 more years) the difference between an SSR GV and and OKW GV is 155 points. We'd really like to alternate between an 2 bedroom unit one year and a GV the next. So we could also solve this problem by adding on about 80 SSR points and always getting a GV there...

I've thought about this too. Neither the Contemporary nor the AKL holds a lot of appeal for our family. But the 12 extra years sure looks good!

Truthfully if points/$/reservation difficulties were no issue, I would get a GV at Boardwalk every time...but real life demands I budget just a little more carefully then that...alas! :rolleyes1

Buy an extra 80 at SSR since you said you like staying there and would like more points anyway. :thumbsup2 Then you do not have the 7 to 11 month problems/banking/borrrowing etc..
