Closing in on 200 points at SSR.

Okay, now it is time to pick a use year. August is what is being offered but I can also take September, October, or December.

We see ourselves often vacationing in a period spanning the end of August through the first few days of September, so conventional wisdom (correct me if I'm wrong) says September and even October would not be a good choice. August might seem a natural BUT....

We're vacationing at WDW next month (was planned and paid for ages ago) and don't see ourselves going back in 2006... I don't think. There is a CHANCE it might be difficult to make it back for our first trip HOME until mid-late August 2007. I hope I'm wrong and we're able to schedule something earlier--- late 2006 or early 2007... but since we find it hard to go twice in the same calendar year doing so would still mess up our eventual plan to visit every August.

The obvious plan is to try to find a way to double dip and take advantage of our point surplus... make the time. We'll see.

But just in case we can't (schedules can be tricky) maybe I should be picking a later use year... that way the banked 2005 points don't expire unitl late 2007.

I'm thinking December. Is there a downside to a December use year? If I chose December, this is the way I understand it... I'll receive my 200 2005 December points right away. I have until May 31 to bank those points. If I do I have 400 points available 12/1/06, 200 of which must be used before 11/30/07. Do I have it?

Just to clarify one more point... if I do bank my 2005 points and then suddenly in June say, what the heck, I'm headed down in November, I can borrow the Dec 2006 points to do so right?

Thanks for your patience.

(I guess I could just rent my 2005 points. But what fun is that! :goodvibes I love the idea of starting out with a surplus because we are hoping to bring family in the near future.)

If you usually go from the end of August to December, I don't think December would be good for you. For example, if you have an October trip and have to cancel it in September before the 30 days, you will only have until November 30 to use those points and it would be too late to bank most of them.

Yes you do.

Correct again.

But I agree with DebieB. But you will also find that over the next however many years that you own, you're vacation patterns may change.

Yes, we will probably never settle on one vacation time. August works well for us but we may find we can't stand the heat... or the hurricanes.

Now my thinking is I will go with August after all. I think certainly I can find a way to use those points before July 31, 2007! Sheesh. I'm sure I'll be itching to get home as soon as I have a contract. It's just that since we're going next month it's hard to focus on planning the next trip.

Still, if I can find a way to go back before Feb 2007 it could be one of the last cheap Disney trips. If I upgrade to AP this coming trip... then the next trip I have no ticket costs. My son turns 3 on Feb 22, 2007 so if I make it before them no ticket or buffet costs for him. My daughter turns 10 in September 2007 so before then I have child ticket/dining plan costs.

Really, it doesn't make since NOT to make another trip this year! :teeth:
