Last trip to DW we drove so we were able to pack a fridge with lots of food. This time we are flying and I'd still like to pack food but unsure what kinds would do okay in plane. We have a small cooler that can fit in a suitcase. I'll probably bring bottled water, snack stuff, juice boxes, etc. and put them on ice when we get there. Will sodas do okay in luggage? Also what kind of breakfast foods could I bring? Do they sell milk at the Pop food courts? Any help would be appreciated!!!

For our upcoming trip we will take breakfast items for a couple of mornings. I am taking Go-Tarts and cereal bars. There in the hotels are little stores that sell misc. items. We got milk in there our last trip. I am not sure if sodas would travel well since ther are carbonated. We too are taking snacks as well as water. August will be a hot time to go and with a 5 and 1 year old they will need the water!

Are you on the dining plan at all? :confused3 Just wondering as it would help with ideas.... :)

I would definately avoid packing soda. I'd be really worried they would explode! Juice boxes too might be iffy with the change of pressure in the luggage compartment. I've bought juice boxes in the cabin with us and had them expand and squirt out when I put the straw in for the kids.

Milk is usually cheaper in the gift shops than in the food courts....same size (sometimes a bigger size) but less money for some reason.

How are you getting to the resort? Are you taking ME? If you are renting a towncar or a rental car, there are plenty of places to stop for a quick grocery stop. Also, there are places that can deliver to your resort for a small fee...sometimes it will still be cheaper than eating out all the time.

Don't think I'll do the dining plan. I was looking into it and it seems like it would cost less to do our own thing.

Last year we took one of my kids small suitcases ( carried it on) and packed pop tarts, granola bars, fruit snacks, small boxes of assorted cereals. I wouldn't feel comfortable packing drinks, they may explode. We love the dining plan, i love that i can eat anywhere, and anything and not worry..lol

You didn't say how long you are staying for, but I think it would depend on how much food you would need to bring.

They do sell milk in the hotel gift shops, and it is something like $3.00 for a half gallon. I checked into wegoshop(dot)com and they have a delivery fee of $22 up to $200 worth of groceries. You also wouldn't be paying a resort "surcharge" for the items. Just the regular grocery store prices.

To me it would be worth it not to have to worry about crushed Pop-Tarts or spilled Coke all over the place.

Have a great vacation!!

We are on the dining plan, but we are bringing some food from home for our picky toddler.

We are packing peanut butter and some plastic knives, crackers, and individual apple sauces. Also some of those little cereal boxes.

We're planning to buy milk and a loaf of bread at the sundries section of the CBR. I already checked and they have bread loaves. That way we can make up a peanut butter sandwich for ds.

I have packed cans of pepsi in my checked luggage before. Never had any problems, but you could put them in baggies if need be.

My last trip to Disney (1991), we ate Honeycomb cereal every morning in our room. Purchased milk from the resort.

Have fun on your trip!

You may want to consider ordering from gardengrocer.com and having your items delivered to your room.
The del'y charge is reasonable, the service and selection are excellent-and it's one less thing to worry about!

Just a thought :)

We fly out the 4th and I have planned to take just a few items with us and have the rest delivered by www.gardengrocer.com Their delivery fee is $10 and the prices aren't out of line with what you would pay for items not on sale. I am taking gotarts, fruit rolls ups, packages of cheese and crackers and crystal light water bottle packets. I am planning on having bread, lunchmeat, chips, gatorade and a case of water delivered since those items would be akward to take with us. I am debating on getting any fresh fruit as it is the only item I saw that seemed really high.

We also are planning on using Gardengrocer.com to purchase water and some other drinks. I'm planning on brining cereal, pop tarts and purchase milk at the resort. I also have a soft sided cooler that I'm planning on keeping things cool in.

You need to bring pop-tarts or you will be banded from the DisBoards.

how long are you staying ? and how many are in your group... it is a good idea about the gardengrocer. The one advanatge I see when you bring your food is that on your way back home you have alot of room for souvies :goodvibes but yup.lots of pop tarts, individual peanut butter strips, granola bars, single pouches of powder juice drinks that for taste if you plan to drink the tap water at the park.

What are peanut butter strips?

Okay now you have me thinking about the Garden Grocer. I know I've read about this in past trip reports. Is this the one that you have to be present in your resort room to receive the delivery?

Or will they simply deliver to the resort and you can call down to see if it arrived already.

Thanks for the info.

We used Garden Grocer on our trip in June. We were at ASSp. The groceries were delivered in the afternoon while we were at the MK. They were in our room when we got back to the resort. They will hold the items for bell services for you if you get things that need refrigeration. But if it is all non-perishables, bell services will deliver it right to your room. It was great and very easy. We just picked up milk and cream cheese later at the resort since we didn't want to worry about that being delivered.

I use wegoshop. They're very personable & will use coupons and split the savings.

If you pack a few items you can get cheaper at home (by using sales/coupons) in a small cooler, duct tape it and either check it or use it as a carry on you'll also have that cooler to pack and bring into the water parks (where it is allowed) and save a ton of $. It's a pain to being back home empty though... make sure to buy a packable square foot of souvieners (tees, small spinny things etc) ... uh, on which you may use up more money than saved... oh well :confused3 for every upside there is a down. :goodvibes
