Help me recommend an offsite for a friend.

My partner and I are getting married at WDW in March, and a fair few friends and family will be joining us :goodvibes

We're staying at POR, and again, a lot of family and friends will be there with us too. However I do have a couple of budget conscious friends who would prefer to stay offsite (without a car) However they'd like to stay close-ish to our resort.

Can anyone suggest any hotels/motels etc. near POR that I can tell them about?

They seem to be having trouble understanding distance, and figure everything's walking distance :scared1: so I'm trying to help them out a bit...

There's very few places within Disney that's walking distance to each other let alone those offsite. The only way they're going to get from off site to your resort is by taxi so that will eat up any money they save staying offsite. The closest hotels would be in the DownTown Disney area and they're probably more expensive than staying at one of the Disney values.

From a few of the DTD Hotels like the Hilton, Holiday Inn, Regal Sun, Buena Vista Palace they could walk to DTD Marketplace and then get a Disney bus from there but I don't know the exact procedure for getting to your resort. Even if they stayed at one of the Disney value resorts they would have to change buses because I don't think the buses go between resorts, you have to go to a park then a resort.
Here's a map of the whole area. The Disney markers are pink, Port Orleans is #45

Thats a good map.
Would they be open to staying at a value resort?
Aslo, how do they plan on getting to the offsite place without a car? A taxi ride from the airport is pretty expensive.

We stayed at the Buena Vista Suites at the Caribe and were very happy with it. They have a great breakfast to get you started in the mornings and there is a nice bus that will take you to the parks. The beds were comfy and the pillows were excellent.

Check on kayak.com and bookit.com for deals on the DTD hotels. The Wyndham(formerly Regal Sun) and the Hilton are the closest to the DTD bus stop. Your friends can walk to that bus stop and then get on a bus directly to POR. There is also a boat from DTD to POR. Be aware that these hotels all charge a daily resort fee of between $8-$14.

I would think that with the current discounts on room only your friends could get a good price on a WDW value level resort. That would also give them DME from the airport which if you had to pay for transportation from the airport to the WDW area would be at least $100 roundtrip. If they do not want to rent a car this really is the best option for them. Staying off site without a car doesn't work very well.

Thanks, I know nothing is really walking distance, it's convincing them of that, that is the problem.

I think she's hoping to spend under $100 a night, and the values are just over that - I don't see the problem, but obviously she just wants cheaper. I'll point out to her about the airport transfers...

I've found the Wyndham for $84 a night, and have emailed that to her. Personally I don't understand why she's only just looking into this now, she's known for months (years even) :confused3
