Help me, please.

I want to buy a DSLR camera. It's something I am going to have to save for. I want to use it mainly for pictues of DD jumping her horse (indoor low light), for outdoor pictures of her riding and of the horses, family pictures and outdoor travel shots. Is a entry level DSL a good option, or should wait until I can afford a better camera? I am clueless. (like you couldn't tell)
I found a Sony A300 for $419.00. Are they good cameras? I found good reviews on it, but a couple of poor reviews on the warranty.

It's all so overwhelming.

An entry level camera is certainly enough to start out. I just upgraded a couple weeks ago to another entry level model. I had a Pentax K100D and upgraded to a Pentax K-x. It is at the same level of camera, but the three years between models have made a huge difference in features and performance! The high ISO performance on this new one has floored me so far!!! It is easily two stops better. (i.e. the ISO 6400 looks as good as the 1600 of my old camera)

You need to research the systems to make sure that it is a good fit for you. Also, study the cameras themselves to see if you like the button placement, menus, etc. If it does not feel good to you or frustrates you it is likely to sit in the closet collecting dust.

I know you mentioned the A300, but the fundamentals of the camera will be the same as the A200 I reviewed*. I think the Alphas are outstanding cameras, and a great value for what you get.
