Hi there
I am hoping that you can help me out...Dh is thinking of us purchasing a dvc. The question i have is this, 1) Do the weeks run from sat-sat or anything like that? For example, we are going to disney on mar 2-9 which is tues-tues. Can this be done with dvc? Also, we have booked our airfare only for this coming march, and I have put a deposit down on the poly. Is it possible to find a dvc that could accomodate us for that time ( mar 2-9), this close? or do ressies need to be made a year or so in advance.

thanks so much

Disney DVC is not like a traditional vacation club. You buy the amount of points you want & you can use them however you want. For example, my family has a trip booked at our home resort Wed. to Wed. We had the points, so no problem. With your "home" resort, you can book at 11 months out & 7 months out for all DVC resorts. There is a lot of info. to look at. Good luck!

As BLTtinkerbell said the DVC is not like a traditional timeshare where you buy a week's vacation. You are buying points and then finding a time of year (season) and resort that you can book for those points for the number of days you want. If you want to stay at BLT near the MK, then it'll cost more points than staying at most of the other resorts for the same dates.

Also, we have booked our airfare only for this coming march, and I have put a deposit down on the poly. Is it possible to find a dvc that could accomodate us for that time ( mar 2-9), this close? or do ressies need to be made a year or so in advance.

The only way to be sure is by call member services. Your guide might be able to check as well. However, I have heard people being able to book four months out. The dates you are considering is the beginning of the spring break and gets pretty busy. Ressies can be made anywhere from 11 months before to the day before depending on availability and luck on the short notice ones. The 11 month ressie can only be made at your home resort (the resort you purchase your points for). At all of the other resorts you cannot make a reservation until the 7 month mark before you desired reservation date.

thanks so much

If you make it to WDW during the dates you mentioned we'll be there too at BLT.
:yay:

You pay x number of points per day so you can make a reservation for any days that you want.

If you are willing to stay at OKW or SSR in March you have a pretty good chance. I just tried yesterday to add on some days at BWV in March and they didn't have availability.

The 'week' concept really doesn't exist in DVC. You can book for 1 night, or as many nights as you have points to cover. Take a look at the DVC point charts, linked at the top of the page, and you'll see how the point costs per night work out.

How exciting for you guys! Definitely look at all of your options (direct through Disney, resale, etc.) and educate yourself as much as you can about DVC before you talk with a Guide. The Guides, although very nice and passionate, do use fuzzy math and other tactics to sell DVC, and the best way to combat that is to know all the ins and outs (pros and cons) about DVC going in.

Given the questions you are posing, it seems as if you are very early in that process (but the good news is that you've come to a great place to learn). If you do end up buying, you can probably get *something* for your March trip, although the resort you get may not be your first or second or even third choice. Your best bet of getting your first choice is to book 11 months out, so if you aren't able to do that with the majority of your trips, DVC may not be for you. Either way, keep reading and asking questions and you'll be a DVC pro in no time. Good luck! :goodvibes

If you are purchasing direct through Disney, I would recommend you tell your guide that you want to make your March 2-9 reservation as part of your booking. The guides seem to be able to pull strings (at least at the non-sold out resorts).

You may not get the resort room category, but you may be surprised what your guide can come up with.

We made it part of our bargaining chip before they sent us the paperwork.

One of the nicest perks of purchasing direct from DVC ;)

The week is not a traditional Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun. We had the same question when we booked our first trip. MS told us it was any 7 day stay regardless of when it started. But like a PP stated you are not locked into just a 7 day trip.So unlike most vacation houses at the coast you do not have to do a Sat or Sun arrival and departure. Hope that helps....

I'll be at BLT on Mar 8, so we would have some overlap. If you go with Dvc there is a chance you can get a reservation at bay lake. they keep releasing new rooms and i had a waitlist come through in a matter of days.
