I need everyone's help thinking of an excuse for taking a few days off of work in November...

Okay, so here's the deal...

I don't want to use any vacation time (which will be used for a WDW trip in January :thumbsup2 ) or any personal time (since I plan on being sick for a long weekend sometime around April... :rolleyes2 ), so I am going to just have to take time off, which my company is really, really particular about. I HAVE to have a GOOD excuse, and it HAS to be submitted in writing AT LEAST 19 days before said requested time off. Needless to say, I found out about something I really want to do a couple weekends from now, which is unfortunately 16 days from tomorrow, which is when I will be submitting my request. :sad2:

I really just want the time off to go somewhere with friends and slack off in a big way. I can't tell my boss that, and he would NOT give me time off for that either.

So I need an excuse, because I think that if I have a good one, my boss might just let the fact that my request wasn't submitted in time slide. He's sort of nice like that... I hope. :worship:

I thought of a wedding or a baby shower out of town, but I would have known about those kinds of events well in advance.

You really can't "plan" a funeral...

So, here's where you all come in. Does anyone have any really good suggestions? Anything?

:thanks:

Oh this should be good. Too bad I'm going to busy tonight.

Just in case this is real, my vote goes to using a VACATION or PERSONAL day. :sad2:

LOL, I'm 100% serious! So no crazy answers (although I know I will get them). I really need an "honest" to goodness excuse!

Court date? Or will your boss ask to see the summons?
No, that won't work. We get court time no problem, but we need proof.

Gee, I wonder why your company is particular about time off?? Maybe people abusing the privilege?? :confused3

Can't believe you would go on a public forum to ask people for help in scamming your company.

Take vacation time, or time without pay.

Maybe you should just be honest and tell him that you know you are within the 19 day window, but since its just 3 days short of the 19 days you are hoping he'll consider it. Or, depending on the job, can you offer to work anther time, such as the weekend before or after?

edit to add: If you really need a reason, is it perhaps your grandma's birthday and someone is planning a surprise party? How about good old uncle Frank -isnt he turning 75 soon?

You get so much vacation time for a reason.

ETA: I see you want to take Time without Pay. How long have you been at this job? I'm sorry but I think it's a bad reflection on an employee asking for TWOP unless it's for a darn good reason (such as health issues, family issues etc. and one has burned all of his or her time). And then to throw a lie on top of it. :sad2:

I've been there FOREVER. It's not the TWOP that's the problem. They could care less. It's the 19 day rule. Some bosses look past it, but mine hasn't in the past.

They allow you to take TWOP even though you have vacation and personal time?

I have no idea...good luck. I would use the personal time and then in April if you are legitimately out of time then I would ask for TOWP within the 19 day time frame. Works out either way....

This sounds like a good plan. I would also think about building up some time in case of a real emergency.

Are we talking 16 work days? or 16 normal days?

- an old friend from England (insert far away place), is going to be in (insert near by large town) for work for a few days and you want to catch up.
- uncle bob has been put in hospice care in another town and you want to see him before he dies. (nice excuse for later too)
- a friend will give birth and you would like to be there to help her (see the kid??)
- xyz is having a suprise birthday party for their milestone year

Then play nice and say since its a sudden decision you would rather use it as twop.

Otherwise you could backdate the form and see what happens.

I don't want to sound like an a$$, which I think I am coming across as.

Basically, there are things that I obviously can't write here, but I am doing nothing to the company that is any disservice to them... trust me. I am an overworked emplyoee who needs some time off, who can take TWOP in lieu of any personal/vacation time, and who wants to use it. I'm three days too late, and I feel I deserve it, but the company (probably) doesn't. I need a good excuse, there are a lot of people here, and I figured someone would come up with something. End of story.

So please don't think of me as an a$$.

How about something medical? I had surgery two summers ago. Nothing visible, but I asked for time off. I can't imagine he would ask what it's for but I'm sure you could think of something.

Ok fine I will say it. I went in for surgery to have an anal fistula removed...I had to go under anisthetia and the operation took 15 minutes. But I got a good 3-4 days off work. You need time to recuperate. (Although I felt fine the next day, but had already taken the time off and certainly wasn't going to go back to work before I had to!)

What about a 50th wedding anniversary out of town that you weren't aware of? That's the only thing I can think of... My DH has to take TWOP as he's run out, so I know how you feel, although he doesn't go by any 19 day rule, so it's all good that way...

If company's treated their employees with a bit more respect & leniency you could focus more on work than jumping through hoops for it I say!

I vote for the anal fistula thingy.... :lmao: Or just mention the word "Female" problems and you'll probably get the day WITH pay and he quickly retreats. Men don't want to hear about that stuff. :rotfl:

Most companies don't allow you to take unpaid time off until you have exhausted your accrued time. Hopefully, the people judging you here are the only ones you'll have to face and your employer won't find out. Don't count on that though.

Do your parents live out of town? Perhaps you could need to assist them with some legal issues?

Do your parents live out of town? Perhaps you could need to assist them with some legal issues? Chances are he wouldn't ask for details about what, and if you looked conerned enough and apologetic enough, it just might work. Just make sure you tell your parents and any sibs not to call you at work while you're gone or it'll blow your story!
