Okay, my DH and I have a suprise trip planned for my DS (he will be turning 12 on the trip) and his best friend for July! We are planning on spending 4 days at US/IOA and one day at Sea World.

What I was planning is a small gathering of family the night before we leave as they all want to give him $$ for his Birthday. I am planning on breaking the news at that point but would love to hear any suggestions as to how to break the news. I want to be creative with this!! Also, his best friend will be there and he does not know anything about this trip as well, so this will be a surprise for him as well.

Help!! :jester:

Because we have hit the double digits in our countdown, my DH and I are getting excited about this surpise! WE have never surprised him with anything like this!!

Thank you!

What about a gift bag of things he could use on the trip...sunglasses, sunscreen, disposable camera, etc. You could order an IOA t-shirt and/or cap put it in there. Maybe a crossword puzzle book, or something to read during the trip.

I'm sure you are all going to have a wonderful time and it will be a birthday present that he will always remember.

I'd do what No 11 said but I'd wrap it up and when he opens it tell him real matter of factly - "You'll need that on our trip." And when he asks what trip - tell him , "When we go to Universal Studios in July" like of course you knew we were doing that. You might want to wrap up a t-shirt or something from Universal for his friend too.

Sounds like a great surprise! I know ya'll will have fun!

Start watching some Universal movies with your family once a week if you can. Kind of allude to thw whole trip. Watch BTTF one week, Spider-Man another, Beetlejuice, X-men, Jaws, etc. ;)

I like Debby's idea, but I would take it to the next level, and make it a total suprise.

Don't give him any hints at all that your going anywhere. The day of the trip (or if you can have the family gathering right before the trip) just put him and his friend into the car (with their secretly packed bags in the trunk) and drive to the airport, still not giving in on whats going on. Eventually, he'll figure something out (most likely at the airport, if he notices the destination is Orlando) but the whole whirlwind element of the suprise will make it even better.

Even when he gets to Orlando, he won't know exactly where you're going until you reach Universal property. That'll be a great suprise.

U could make up dummy express passes for Hulk etc on computer and put in with his card:jester:

You all have some great ideas. The boys are not going to know about the trip until the night before. This is what I think that I have come up with. I thought that I would wrap up all together in a box the movies and DVD's that DS owns that are rides at USF/IOA (Jaws, Jurrasic Park, MIB, Shrek, Spiderman, etc. you get the idea). He will think that this is kind of wierd because they will be his own movies....I just want to get him thinking... hmmm...what do all of these movies have in common?

Then I want to wrap up in another package stuff for the trip for both of the boys..snacks, sunscreen, disposable cameras, etc. At this point DS's best friend will still not know...

The next box will be the passes that I make up for the rides, passes to SeaWorld, etc. And in the last box I want them to open the plane tickets. When he opens these tickets I am going to ask him to look at the date and at the names on the plane tickets very carefully!

Then I hope that chaos will happen and that we see 2 young men doing the happy dance!!! I know that I will be doing the happy dance!!!

What are your thoughts on this?

I think the boys will be thrilled. By having it be a surprise like this, it will be even more memorable to him in the future. You are all going to have a great time.

Sounds great!! I wish someone would surprise me with a trip! Will you adopt me???:p

Disney Debbie! Sure, I'll adopt you!!!! :p You will have to let me know hor RPR is, that is where we are staying!!!

My DS has told me that I never surprise him with anything....Oh, I can't wait to see his reaction!

Have a great day!!!!

Your question has brought back some wonderful memories and I can't wipe the grin off my face! I love to surprise our children with travel- by now they are always trying to read into anything I say or do... I remember one time, I told them their Dad had to go to a convention for his job (never did that before) and we were going to have to drive him to the airport. I even told them that the convention was in Orlando, got on the internet and showed them some hotel in Orlando, they all bought it! I packed their school backpacks the night before with things for the plane and of course the bathing suit and short trick... The next morning I threw them in the car and told the kids to get in and we would drop DH off.. they had no idea until we got to the gate and I said Dh couldn;t go alone that we were going too.. they didn't beleive me until they unzipped the backpacks and their school work wasn;t there.. We kept each step of the trip a surprise, the limo and the airport then of course they thought we were staying at an off site hotel, that year we pulled into the Contemporary Hotel at Disney... Oh I just smile now - their faces were worth everything! Enjoy this moment it is priceless!:Pinkbounc

Oh Aruba that was just lovely.

No wonder it brings a smile to your face remembering it.

Disney Dreamer I would love to be there to see the boys reaction:) :bounce:
