MK is closing exceptionally early on DD's birthday (6:30). We won't have any other occasion to ride the monorail during our stay, so I thought we would have dinner at one of the monorail resorts that night. For two adults and a 3yo birthday girl, which would you recommend: Chef Mickey, Ohana, or 1900 Park Fare?

FWIW, we'll be eating at CRT for either breakfast or lunch that day. Other meals include Akershus, Play n Dine at H&V, and Donald's Safari Breakfast, as well as either LTT or Plaza.

Also, it's rumored that the reason for the early close is a private event. If that's the case, do you think there'd be any chance of getting a dinner ressie at Crystal Palace w/o eating crazy early? We don't have any other meals w/ the Pooh characters, so I thought about that instead of eating at a monorail resort.

If you want the characters, i'd do Chef Mickeys. However, if food quality is your game, then Ohana hands down! The only times we enjoyed buffets was for breakfast. Dinner ones just weren't our cup of tea in regards to the food.

In regards to early ressies for park closure, it depends on when the park closes and what is early to you. If they are closing at 5ish, you might be able to do a 4pm dinner, but it would be tight. I'd recommend skipping CP so you can relax, not have to eat early, and be worried the whole time if you are getting to see the characters before having to leave.

If you want a character meal, it would just depend on what characters you wanted to see. If you want to see Mickey and his friends, then Chef Mickey's is the way to go. If you want to see Cinderella, Prince Charming, and the Step-Sisters, then 1900 PF is the way to go. Honestly, we love both places. Chef Mickey's is so fun. 1900 PF is all laughs-the step-sisters are a riot!

I agree with the last poster, I think I would skip crystal palace and have fun playing and looking at another resort. Personally I think your dd would love eating at 1900 Park Fare and get to see Cindy, her Prince and the evil step mother and step sisters. From what I hear the step sisters alone are worth going here.
As for good food, I don't think you can beat Ohana's! The hotel atmosphere is amazing (as is Grand Floridian) and you'll get a chance to see another hotel while your there. I also hear the shopping at either are pretty good, especially the Poly. :goodvibes

If you want the mouse and some napkin twirling but aren't worried about food quality then Chef Mickey's. Still want characters with a better food quality then 1900. Characters on the back burner but still a fun place with great food then 'Ohana.

I'm not a fan of Ohana's. Too much dry over cooked meat.

Chef Mickey is just OK.

I do like 1900 Park Fare.

Either way I think I would go with a Character Meal.

Since your DD will see Cindy that morning at CRT, I vote for Chef Mickey's. The food is better at 1900 PF but not by much. 'Ohana would be the best food but I think your DD would enjoy CM's more.

O'hana's or Kona's since both r on monorail system. No to CM for dinner. Park Fare for breakfast mind u was bad although I cannot say for dinner. We just got back.:thumbsup2

That would be a toss up for me. The food at Ohana was wonderful! It was one of our favorite meals. But so was 1900 PF. It's one of the better dinner buffets on property and the step family is a hoot! So, I'd go with one of those. I would also totally skip CM for dinner. Their breakfast was questionable at best so I cnn't imagine what they do with dinner.

My thoughts exactly - we don't particularly care for dinner buffets at WDW. Ohana is one of our favorites :thumbsup2

If she's already seeing the princesses at CRT, then I'd do Chef Mickeys.

We loved the step sisters at 1900 Park Fare, but honestly for a 3 year old it might be too much or not as understood.

I would definitely take the opportunity to ride the Monorail with her over to CR for Chef Mickeys. I'm sure she'd love it, especially seeing Minnie and the selection of food would be better for her. Ohana's is awesome, one of our favorites, but not really food friendly for a 3 year old, unless she's a HUGE meat eater. My 4 and 6 year old ended up with Nuggets being made for them.

Thanks everyone. I think I've decided on Chef Mickey for dinner that night. For starters, even though she will be three that day, we have her booked as a 2yo, so she won't have her own dining credits. Thus, buffets work well as she can still get her own plate of food. The only real reason I was even considering CP was that we have no other occasion to dine with the Pooh characters, but I really like the idea of taking her on the monorail, plus we can catch the Electric Water Parade after dinner. So I got it narrowed down to either CM or 1900 PF, but thought about it that not only will we see the princesses at CRT earlier that day, but we're also eating at Akershus the first night of our trip. I'm all for seeing the princesses, but THREE princess meals in one trip is a bit much, esp. since she's not hugely princess crazy. I think Princesses at Akershus and CRT, Mickey & Pals at CM and Tusker House, and Playhouse Disney character at Hollywood & Vine will make for a good balance. Yes, I do think I'm probably a bit crazy for making 5 of 6 TS meals character meals (we'll also have one other meal at either LTT or the Plaza), but this trip is all about her, and she'll only be three once.

I do have two related questions now. With MK closing at 6:30, how much time should I allow to get from MK to the Contemporary when I make my ADR? Also, if we're going to eat dinner at CM, would you make the CRT meal at breakfast or lunch?

Actually, you can walk from the MK to the Contemporary in about 7 minutes. It really is a nice walk, plus it beats waiting for a monorail.

I'd say make your CRT meal for breakfast, so you can spread out your sit-down meals.

I agree. CRT is a great breakfast. Make it an early ADR (before the park opens) so you can get a family pic in front of the castle before the crowds.
