Help me Pick a Camcorder!

I have narrowed my decision down to 2 camcorders, the Sony DCR-DVD105 Mini-DVD Handycam Camcorder and the Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder. The camcorders are in our price range and the best for what we are looking for after doing research. We mainly want to just shoot home video footage and maybe do very little editing here and there. Also, we want to be able to take decent looking photos with it. I know they will never be as good as a camera, but I'd like to know when comaring the two. The Sony is more expensive than the Panasonic. Please give me your opinions. Thanks for your help!

If it were me I would buy Sony Mini DV, but since you narrowed it to these two I would go with the Sony.

I agree with CMMickeyMouse, I would go with a Mini DV instead of a DVD one. I've always heard it's better to put your movies on your computer and then use a DVD burner to burn them rather than from the camera straight to a dvd. They may be better now, but it wasn't that good a few years ago.

I just purchased our second Mini-DV (the other one has been overused for years and is starting to make those "on it's last legs" noises!) a couple of months ago. All of the reviews I read for direct to DVD were horrible - so we stuck with the Mini-DV that we were used to.

My vote was for the Sony. Have a Sony Cybershot H-1 digital camera and a Sony Digital Camcorder and love them both. Have always been very happy with the Sony products that we've bought.
