we are thinking about buying in to DVC but are having a very hard time to decide if it is worth it for us or not.we have ONLY stayed at the polynesian when we go and love it,BUT knowing we are going to go every year with 2 kids(6 and 3) the poly is very expensive.what keeps comming to mind is the yearly dues,i understand that after 7 or 8 years its paid for but what will the dues be in the future also

we would like to stay at the old key west but SSS has the incetives?
if we bought in SSS would we have problems booking OKW 7 mths advance?
why does it take so many points to stay at the poly?

No one knows for sure what dues will do in the future. But there's no need to expect they will go crazy. They've been going up 2-5% year for 15 years now - I'd expect that in the future too.

OKW is usually one of the easiest resort to get into. Other than the absolutely busiest days (New Year's Eve for instance) it's not usually a problem at the 7-month mark.

If you know OKW is "your" resort, you can buy an OKW contract on the resale market for pretty cheap.

Most of the options other than staying in a DVC resort are expensive point-wise, especially the Poly.

The DC options are expensive in part because DVC must rent out units to get the cash to pay and CRO takes a 50% cut. Plus they don't rent every room generated so even more inefficiency to gather the cash to pay the Poly. DVC could be a great choice if you go light or neutral on weekends assuming you'd go most years as stated. I think most like the other amenities (kitchen, more space) over the resorts like the Poly but everyone is different. I'd say rent from a member and give it a try then decide. Dues are important but certainly less than paying cash for a deluxe.

Consider the resale market...there are various options on resorts (SSR for example has a large number of contracts available) and prices are very reasonable. It takes a longer time to go thru resale (6-8 weeks) versus buying directly thru Disney (immediate) but price per point can be slightly less to $10-$15 less. Including the Timeshare Store, there are a few resale brokers you can talk with for available contracts.

We just purchased SSR and are waiting to close hopefully no later than Monday. Good luck!
