Hi all,
We are planning a mid-late September trip for 5 nights for our 20th anniversary and I had almost settled on GF outer building CL but then a few days ago saw where a poster made GF seem like the motel6. We go frequently and are in a quest to stay at all resorts so I'm not worried about missing one. I do however want this to be special. We are 5: Me, DW, DS3(11), DS4(7), and DD(5) so we are open to just about any deluxe or maybe even renting DVC points. Should I just stay with my first thought with the GF CL or will we be disappointed? If so, suggestions?

Grand Floridian is on my bucket list and I think it would be a grand place to stay! Having said this, I would not let any comments or reviews from folks you don't know deter your special trip. I have read many negative reviews about all of the WDW resorts and honestly you will always find someone who doesn't like something. Maybe because it's Disney and the resorts are expensive folks expect more, I don' know. I do know that each time I stay on-site at a new resort and have read unfavorable reviews - I have been nervous for naught! Enjoy your 2oth anniversary and take full advantage of all that GF offers.

Boy Do I totaly agree with this post. I would for sure go to the GF if I could, my second would be the wilderness lodge villas, but I certainly wouldn't change the GF based on a review. Oh by the way Op I an avalible to be an extra if you need a tour guide. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

ITA :thumbsup2. All resorts have followers as well as people who will never stay there, but that's just a matter of preference. The GF is a beautiful resort and would make for a great anniversary trip, IMO. Prior to our Poly stay, I read a lot of negative reviews and considered changing resorts due to these reviews. I decided to stick with it as the Poly was always at the top of our list to try and I am so glad I did. We loved the Poly from the minute we checked in and would have missed out on one of our best Disney trips had I changed resorts. So with that said, if the GF is where you want to stay, don't let some negative reviews deter you from staying there. Have a great trip :wizard:.

I agree ppl find fault with just about anything. What bothers them might not both you. I think I know the thread your talking about. :mic: if you think you would be happy go for it!

Another voice urging you to go ahead as planned, and have a wonderful trip!

There is not one single thing -- no resort, no restaurant, no tour, no attraction, NOTHING -- that gets ONLY good reviews. People seem to be able to find fault with everything at WDW and yet keep going back:thumbsup2

I used to make myself crazy over this, but finally realized that just doing what feels right to us is the best plan.

Enjoy!

We stayed at GF for my bday 2 years ago, granted just a standard gv room, but it didnt take long for us to fall in love with this place. Very clean,cm's we encountered were very polite and friendly not stuffy at all. Dont pass up the chance to stay at GF you will not regret it!

I'm going to differ... We have stayed there once... Just not our cup of tea... Get what you paid for... hardly, preferred the CR garden wings over the GF... Some out buildings are out there, other than that, the out buildings are just that, a building painted white....

Nope for us, Poly has more ambiance but too high a price tag... CR, ideal garden rooms and WL, better yet but only sleep 4......good luck!

I have stayed at the GF a couple of times now but both times on business so my rooms were not in the main building and as expected were in the outer buildings.

THe rooms were very nice and I would classify them as upscale as compared with the other WDW rooms I have stayed at. As a DVC member, I have only stayed at deluxe resorts so you can use that as the comparison.

I know the GF is going through a pool rehab and with the new GF DVC resort under construction both of these could be impacting the comments on the GF, but I did not find anything negative to comment on during my stays at the GF.

We stayed at the GF last year and my kids loved it! It was beautiful and clean. My kids loved the pools and all the activities at night. We loved the monorail and the boat rides home from MK. Go for it and have a great time!!

GF is not my favorite, but it's because of where the self parking is located. Since most of my trips are solo, I don't like the long walk from across the street back to the resort, and especially if it's dark outside, as the lot is not really visible from the road. I always feel very vulnerable going to and from the self parking at GF, so if I'm solo, I choose to stay elsewhere. But as far as the resort itself, I have enjoyed it.

But I can tell you after years and years of stays at nearly every WDW resort, that I have had a handful of what I would call "poor quality" stays. And every one of these poor stays has been at a resort where I've had great stays before and after the poor one. Sometimes things just don't go the way you expect. In fact, I think expectations have a lot to do with it.

If you put pressure on yourself to have the "perfect" stay or "the best stay ever" you're pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed somewhere along the line. For the most part, I hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and I have great WDW vacations.
