So I've been trying to think of a clever name for a mother/son dance at school and coming up with nothing I love. It's for Pre-K thru 5th grade. I don't wanna use "mom" in the title in order not to exclude other females they may want to escort the little guys in their life.

Any thoughts??

A Night Under the Stars?

Under the Sea Dance? (LOL! Remember Back to the Future?) - Just kidding on this one.

We call ours "Son Plus Fun One"

I love this, because it's also not gender specific to the parent/guardian. Families may include single parent/guardian, same gender parent/ guardian, older generation of guardians and so on.

I don't know if the school is comprised of a single gender student body. If not, I would hope the school considers how a limitation on the gender for participation may be difficult for some students.

This topic is a issue at our PTA. Well, it's more the "father/daughter" dance that parents almost came to blows over but same idea.

Ours is called "Boys Night Out". Ours isn't a dance, it's a game night if that makes a difference.

Really, why? We have another organization that hosts the father/daughter dance and it's well received in our area. In fact, that's why we are hosting a mother/son dance since there has been such an interest in having both offered.

Oh, no, it was the name of it that offended someone to the extreme. This was about 5 years ago when it was still call called the "father/daughter dance".

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I think we are going with Prince's Ball - that way the boys get to dress up too and we can have fun decorating with that theme.

So much stress over little things sometimes in the PTO world lol

As the single parent to a daughter (via adoption, so not an absentee father), I get the issue with "father/daughter" dances. I don't think finding a name that's more inclusive is a big ask. But some people act like it's the end of the world to change the name.

That said, I've also given up on fighting the world on issue like this, and DD and I have had long heart to hearts about how she just has to suck it up sometimes. Such is life.
