REI allows you to filter by length but I don't see a liner filter so you can use this link, sort by price, and look for the first non-liner shorts you can find

On topic I go with basic Champion training shorts, they get the job done. I’m sure there are plenty of decent options these days.

I recently tried Soffe. I like them. on A related note, Soffe was the maker of the outfits my stepdaughter’s cheerleading squad wore.

Lululemon also carries 5" shorts without a liner. If you can find on sale they are not too expensive.
