Help me make the most $$$ on Wii's!!

OP hugs to you again, and I really hope you make what you need for Christmas this year!!

is that what the OP said? That she needed the money for Christmas? I thought she was trying to figure out where she'd make the most profit for something perceived as a hot item?

As far as ebay, it may sell ok there because of the cashback deal. People that know about that (on deal websites and such) are buying stuff there cheaper out of their own pocket after the cashback than paying retail or even sale prices. I haven't sold on ebay for a while - no idea what their fees are up to now.

Wii availability? I think it comes and goes. Aldi has them featured in an upcoming ad, though. That struck me as funny for some reason. LOL.

I would just do some research. Look up a few auctions on Ebay and watch them and see how high or low they go. Then mimic what they did--styling, wording, when they place the auction and for how long. I do think it would be better to wait til closer to Christmas when people may be more desperate. And for what it is worth, I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing. We are a capitalist society afterall. :)

As someone who has been all over hunting for Bakugan sets for christmas- I would suggest waiting a few weeks. People will pay more in order to save on gas and stress!
BTW- our Toys R US has a 2 per customer policy on those Darn Bakugans and I have 3 sons! I know they are trying to cut down on Ebayers profitting- but now I have to ask the person behind me to buy an extra!;)

Good Luck-
:thumbsup2

As an aside, my DD works at Toys R Us and last week when they got a shipment of Bakugans in some woman actually bought 60!! :scared1:
Store opened at 10AM and they were gone by 2 PM... that's why they instituted the 2 per customer rule.

It's sad when the innocent suffer along with the guilty. :sad2:

Guilty or smart? There is a fine line but I think guilty is a bit much.

Seriously though, I think we put way too much emphasis on trying to find some hard to get toy for our kids. If you can't get it, they won't die or anything. Not trying to be rude, it's just getting crazy!

Guilty or smart may depend on whether you were raised in the "me" or "we" generation.

It makes me sad to see people like the previous poster unable to purchase 3 of an item for her 3 boys because folks have an "it's all about me" "every man for himself" attitude. :sad2: But then I'm older than dirt and like to think I grew up in a kinder, gentler time. :goodvibes

And now back to your regularly scheduled program :happytv:

But then I'm older than dirt and like to think I grew up in a kinder, gentler time. :goodvibes

Hm... I'm not going to say how old dirt would be ( :) ) but my mom is 75 - ish, and there's NO WAY I would get between her and a sale she wanted! Nothing kind or gentle when it comes to her commando christmas shopping :lmao:

I'm not in any way doubting that YOU are personally kind (I have been known to share the magic now and then, as possibly OP has) - I just laughed when I thought of the older generation as a kinder and gentler time.... it's definitely all relative. :goodvibes

I must say that I'm with those who are against buying them and trying to sell them at a profit. If you needed money for your family, you could have kept the $500 you spent on the Wiis! :confused3 I think the OP would have gotten a bit of different feedback if they were posting the need for the additional money-Christmas gifts, family member sick/laid off. Not that it makes it better, but yes I guess it helps a little bit.

I'm kind of in the same boat in regards to looking for things. My boys (4 and 1) LOVE the little diecast Cars cars you can get for a few bucks at Walmart and Target. They got a book with all of the cars in it and Daddy's been checking another site to see when new cars will come out. It never fails (we have a good relationship with several stores and know when shipments will be coming in) that someone else is there and buys EVERY one and they magically wind up on Ebay. I understand you're trying to "make money" but get a freaking job like the rest of us. My kid just wanted to get a new toy because he'd earned it for some reason. I know that's a difference from the Wii but same theory I guess. Like the person that went to TRU to buy 60 of the same thing...seriously I'm glad they put a limit on how many you could buy. That's just craziness. It makes it a pain for everyone else to have to stop those who take it too far but I'd rather have the rule to protect us from those who can't make decent decisions.

Sorry for the rant...that's been bothering me for a while now and I feel better! :rotfl: Just my opinions so take them for what they're worth I guess :goodvibes :rolleyes1

Good luck OP with whatever you decide to do. If you wind up not selling them, donate them to a local physical therapy place and take the tax write off if you're not able to return them or donate them to a local organization to raffle off as a fund raiser. There are lots of options for you.

Ah, well, now sales are an entirely different matter... all's fair in love and bargain hunting ;) I'd be right in there with Mom! :rotfl:

Wow - what a harsh and judgemental thread this is! I didn't see anywhere that the OP asked to be judged on her reasons for buying wii. And as for what people do - yes this is what they do - buy things to resell for a profit. Does this make the op a bad person, or worthy of a post "laughing" because someone thinks she'll be stuck with them? :confused3 Wow. Maybe it's just my mood today but I'm so disappointed that someone can't ask a question without being judged.

Thanks to the posters who have tried to keep this on-topic and answer her question.

While I do agree that people buy things to sell for profit (hence malls) I don't agree with buying up the hottest toy etc. just to sell and make a profit. Sorry but to me that is just being a sheister if you will. No I am not laughing if she gets stuck with them but I think it is wrong. No I don't have to buy the kids every single thing they want but let's be realistic here, if a parent had budgeted to get whatever item based on the actual price of it and they could not get one because let's say the person in front of them on line bought 50 of them to sell leaving none left in the store then I think that is beyond just not getting kids what they want. Morally I think it is wrong. If the OP wants to sell them then whatever. I still think it is wrong. Everything has a limit now because of people like the OP. Then you have families with more than one child that can't even get the amount of item that they need for their own family because of it all. To me it is no better than scalping tickets. To each their own.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 You said that so well.

Calliing it morally wrong is quite a stretch.

It would be morally wrong if someone went to the grocery store before the big snowstorm and bought all the baby formula then sold it at a huge markup to the people who NEED it.

It is not morally wrong, or illegal for that matter, for someone to buy a few extra Wii's to try to make a few bucks. Quite ingenius, really.
If there is some poor sap of a fool out there willing to pay more than MSRP for a toy they WANT now instead of hassling to look for one themselves, that is the buyers issue, not the sellers.

No one is forcing anyone to buy a Wii. That is a choice. If the seller of the Wii was originally the buyer of the Wii, then the person who buys it from them had just as much a fair chance to buy one as the original purchaser. It was on a store shelf somewhere and they got their first and bought it.

Like I said- to each their own. You think it is ingenius, I think it is selfish and morally wrong. If you can put your head on the pillow each night and are okay with it then that is your perrogative. I however look at it as a black market toy scalping and I would not feel comfortable selling it. Everyone is different. That is just my take on it. YMMV.

Just to put this into perspective though, OP bought 2 extra Wiis, not 50.

Everyone has their opinion but I think it is very rude to reply to a post with name-calling.

I don't think I was harsh or judgemental. The smiles were in agreement with a post where someone didn't agree with someone selling "hot" items for a profit on ebay. I agreed with it. I posted that on the first page. Yes, OP did ask which was better and didn't ask for opinions, but when you post something controversial you are going to get opinions...just like the strollers for older kids, saving tables, lying about kids ages, etc. OP will do what OP wants to do. I think in these economic times people should think twice before doing this but that is what I would do. If OP wants to make money that is her right. I wasn't "laughing" it is the 'good vibes" almost smiley face in agreement. The laughing is a rolling head figure :rotfl:  :rotfl:  . You judged me and that is your right just like I made a judgement on what OP was doing which was my right and I made a judgement agreeing with another post. I will close by saying before you judge someone you should clearly look at what they symbols mean...there is a difference between laughing and smiling. The smiling was in agreement with a post agreeing with that poster who felt it was wrong to sell and hoped OP didn't make money. I agree with that and smiled in agreement. I didn't laugh at OP...if someone is desperate enough to buy a Wii for big bucks on ebay or craigslist and OP makes a bundle on that person good for her! I wouldn't do it.

I have been known to buy one for me, and a couple to sell on ebay. But I always leave something behind on the shelf if I'm reselling. For the gleaners, if you will... Personally, I would feel bad if I bought every single one of an item, so I never do.

WOW! You comment on someone being harsh and judgemental and you turn around and do the same thing. I for one read this entire thread. I for one think it is up to OP to decide what to do. I agree with those think it is not cool to do but whatever. :confused3 I think it is harsh of you to quote someone and then make judgement about a figure they use...which by the way is a smiley face thing, the laughing is a rolly head or the person laying down laughing :rotfl: :rotfl2: . You are disappointed that someone can't ask a question without being judged. I am disapointed that a poster can't post without you judging them.

OP do whatever...maybe you can sell them closer to Xmas.
