I need to throw all the food in our kitchen out & start over. Well, not all of it. ;) I really need to make some changes though.

I have health problems, so I get very little exercise. I know it won't be easy, but I need to get heathier with a change of diet alone. To make things worse, my back problems prevent me from bending over to pick up items off the shelf & pushing a loaded grocery cart. This means my DH now does the shopping. I'm addicted to sweets & he knows it. Being the good hubby that he is, he always brings home cakes & ice cream he knows I like. My lack of exercise combined with all the sweets is a dangerous combo. :sad2: I'm sure you can see why I need help.

I need suggestions for low calorie/ low fat items I can eat for breakfast & things I can snack on until dinner. I'm home all day by myself, & have a habit of nibbling on food to pass the time. :guilty: I also take meds that have to be taken with food. Dinner's not as much of a problem. I don't really like meat, so I can just eat the veggies I fix to go with my DH & DS' meat. Being honest, I won't stick to any type of diet that doesn't allow any sweets. So, I also need some suggestions for things like fruits that will hopefully satisfy my sweet tooth. Please help! I need to make some drastic changes & take off some weight I've gained recently.

:thanks:

My taste buds have drastically changed over the years and I no longer have that "sweet tooth" problem. Don't get me wrong, I still love a good dessert, but I don't eat dessert or sweet snacks on a regular basis. My point is, that if I could change my eating habits, anyone can!

How about those Nabisco 100 calorie snacks? Maybe those will satisfy your cravings.

Also, do you eat any fresh fruit? I always have at least one fruit with breakfast and one with my lunch. Maybe that's what satisfies me. Just try eating one fruit per day and see how it goes.

How about snacking on some almonds? They always fill me up and make me eat less at dinner if I eat about 14 (raw, not roasted) almonds about 1 hour before my meal.

Kashi's Heart to Heart cereal is pretty sweet and with a banana or some blueberries or stawberries and some low-fat milk would make a good breakfast.

Keep trying. It will eventually pay off. Good luck.

I keep lots of frozen berries in the freezer to put on cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, etcetera. I make my sweets (healthy brownies, granola bars, etcetera) so we have healthy sweets to snack on. Try sorbet instead of ice cream, you will save a bunch of calories and they are sweetened with juice. For lunch, try some Uncle Ben's brown rice in the microwave packs, a can of black beans and some salsa all mixed together. Heat up a portion (1 cup) and you will be surprised how filling it is. Sometimes I put some grated cheese on top for some added protein and flavor. It is my FAVORITE lunch :thumbsup2 Unfortunately, the sweets are what is going to hold the water and the weight on. Try fresh fruits instead, popcorn with no butter, pretzels minus the salt and almonds. Sounds blah, but it really isn't.

One quick tip is that sometimes, when I am craving something sweet/high in fat, I look at the amount of calories that it contains. If I can justify it with the amount of exercise I do, then I eat it but, most of the time, I put it back. If I keep the bad treats out of the house, I do not eat them and my kids do not ask for them either, creating better habits for us all. I work at home so I am a snacker too. Grab a cheese stick, an apple or anything else to fill the void.

Ask yourself, "if I am hungry for this treat, would I be hungry enough to eat an apple?" If the answer is no, you are not hungry, just bored. Drink a glass of water instead!!

Keep up the good work!:woohoo:

I keep a box of Hershey's dark chocolate sticks around for when my sweet tooth strikes! Only 60 calories. I love to eat them slowly letting each bite melt in my mouth.

I also get a pack of double chocolate sugar free Jello pudding packs that I enjoy when I'm in the mood for ice cream.:goodvibes

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I really appreciate all of them. I'm writing them all down for my DH to pick up at the grocery store. It will actually be nice to have something different to eat. I find myself going for convenient foods & eating the same thing over & over.

Your understanding is also very much appreciated. My DH is 6' w/ a 32" waist, & my DS is about 5' 11" w/ a 29" waist. Needless to say, they can't really relate. I am fortunate that my DH doesn't complain about my weight, but I need to lose it for me to feel better about myself. :guilty:

If you have anymore suggestions, feel free to post them.

When I get the munchies I like to eat Quaker chewy chocolate chip & peanut butter granola bars, only 100 cal. I also snack on pretzels, grapes & peanut butter crackers.

WW smart one ice cream treats are very very good. Also Starbucks frappucino bars if you like coffee

Laughing cow cheese with Kashi TLC crackers. I buy those crackers and chips in single serve bags as a way to keep portion control, not only for me but help my children learn portion sizes too
