I have decided to bake & ship some cookies to my boyfriend's wonderful parents for Christmas. Thing is, I'm not much of a cookie baker (I prefer to bake cakes/cupcakes & brownies) so I don't know of a lot of good recipes. There are tons & tons of recipes online, but I'm sort of overwhelmed.

I need cookies that will ship well (I live in Louisiana, they live in Connecticut) & that are really, really good. I want to do the traditional chocolate chip & maybe 2 or 3 other different kinds. I don't have a particular chocolate chip recipe that I'm attached to, so if you have one that is amazing, send it my way! And I have NO idea what other cookies to do so help? Please?! I would much appreciate it! :goodvibes

My suggestion:

-

1 pound (1 bag) of mini round pretzels-

14 ounces (1 bag) of Hershey's Kisses or Hugs-

17 3/5 ounces (1 bag) of M&M candies

Container: cookie sheetPrep Time: 5 minutesCook Time: 5 minutes

  • Preheat oven to 200°.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment or waxed paper.
  • Place as many pretzels on the cookie sheet as will fit.
  • Top each with a Hershey's Kiss or Hug. The Hugs chocolates melt faster than Kisses.
  • Place in oven and remove when candy begins to soften just enough to press an M&M candy or decoration into softened candy.
  • Top each with a holiday M&M or decorative candy of choice.
  • Allow to cool completely and then place in freezer for 15 minutes to firm up chocolate.
  • Remove from freezer, place pretzel candies in airtight container and store in freezer until ready to use.
*Any small shaped pretzel can be used, such as square, waffle-shaped or round.

OP, oatmeal cookies, with/without nuts and raisins, ship quite well. I used to get them in a care package from home when I was at university. And, bonus, they can be made as a 'drop' cookie--so no rolling out required!

I found this recipe when I was looking for a Linzer Tart recipe to make for my family. Linzer Tarts are very common in German bakeries in NYC (known for good butter cookies YUM) but I never see them here in PA so I had to improvise, the shape is different but these are totally the same cookies. According to my family these are their new favorites. My favorite Jam is Polaner:cloud9:

Yield:42
cookies

* 1 cup butter, softened (no substitutes)
* 2/3 cup sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/3-1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam

Glaze

* 1 cup powdered sugar
* 2 -3 teaspoons water
* 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Change Measurements: US | Metric

Directions:

Prep Time: 45 mins

Total Time: 1 hr

1. 1 In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.
2. 2 Beat in extract; gradually add flour until dough forms a ball.
3. 3 Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle.
4. 4 Roll into 1 inch balls.
5. 5 Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
6. 6 Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, make an indentation in the center. **I prefer to use the rounded side of a teaspoon size measuring spoon
7. 7 Fill with jam.
8. 8 Bake at 350 degrees for 14-18 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
9. 9 Remove to wire racks to cool.
10. 10 Spoon additional into cookies if desired.
11. 11 Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over cookies.

Here is a link to another NYC baking delicacy. Rainbow cookies can be made with apricot or raspberry, I prefer the raspberry. They are totally yummy and run around $15 a pound, I was soooo happy to discover this easy recipe because these are my daughters favorite but hard to come by. The hardest part is working with the paste but with a little bit of effort it gives:goodvibes

Frantasmic - I think I just saw a similar recipe last night on a blog somewhere. It looks super easy & who doesn't love chocolate & pretzels? Thank you, I will probably be making these!

Gigi22 - oatmeal cookies are one of my favorites! Do you know of a good recipe for them by any chance?

LuvOrlando - I love those kinds of cookies! Polaner is my favorite jam too. I will definitely consider making these.

If you aren't a cookie baker why do cookies? Everyone does cookies this time of year and some experts! So pick something totally different and send that. Make a out of this world brownie, or make candy. Try a snack mix, or make sugared nuts like Disney sells. Start your own thing to be known for. And you'll stand out and be remembered, cookies that you are given all start to blend together and you don't remember who sent what unless it is very good or awful. Plus all the things I listed ship much easier and can be packaged up nicer than shipping cookies!

I didn't mean that I'm not good at making cookies, they just aren't my preferred sweet to make or eat. I'm not at all good at making candy though, so that is out. I didn't think brownies would ship very well, so that's why I ruled those out. I'm not "trying to be known" for anything. I'm just doing something nice for his parents because they are so nice to me. Thank you though. I might reconsider doing some brownies after all.

I didn't mean you were trying to be known, sorry. I just meant everyone sends cookies something different would make it more special. And candy can be as simple as those pretzels. don't worry whatever you send they will like and be appreciative that you thought of them, not a lot of son's girlfriends do!

I just mailed off several tins of various types of candy and cookies. The ones (well the ones my husband didnt want me to mail out) were the Chocolate Butter gooey cookes. I got them by googling Paula Deen and found those. They are really good! I'm hoping they ship well. They almost taste brownie like. I also did some peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies and Mexican Pecan candy.

Good luck!

Oh no worries, I understand what you mean. That's what I thought too & I asked my boyfriend if sending cookies would be too boring & unoriginal, but he swore that his parents would appreciate whatever I send. He has 2 brothers too, so I'm sure anything & everything will be eaten. :laughing: His family is amazing to me, so I figure it's the very least I could do.

Chocolate butter gooey cookies?! I guessed Paula Deen by the butter in the name before I even read your next sentence. I'll have to check those out. Thanks!
