Help Me Get From Point A to Point B to The Magic

Two families looking for advice.

We want to rent a car instead of taking the DCL bus to the port, it's too expensive and you get to the port so late.

Family 1 is at Pop.

Family 2 (us) at WL CL.

How do we rent a car? Where do we rent a car? Can the concierge help?
AAA discounts?

I have rented from Avis at the Hilton at Downtown Disney with drop-off in Cape Canaveral. I was staying at the Swan, and Avis's shuttle picked us up at the hotel and took us to their DD location. Budget is at the Doubletree on Hotel Blvd., and they also offer a free shuttle to their location. Both Avis and Budget offer a free shuttle from their Cape Canaveral offices to the port.

I am an AAA member, but Hertz is the only rental car company I know of that has AAA discounts. I have used discount codes from Entertainment, Sam's Club, and American Airlines in the past, as well as some mentioned at MouseSavers: http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html

The easiest way would be to rent from Alamo or National at the Disney Car Care Center. They will send a shuttle bus to pick a driver up from your resort and take him to the CCC, then he can pick up everybody and head for the port.

I'm pretty sure that Alamo and National do not have a branch near the cruise port. Thrifty/Dollar, Hertz, Budget, Avis, and Enterprise are options.

Make sure you can fit two famlies, with luggage, in whatver car your rent. I'm not sure if you can purchase DCL transfers for luggage only.

Does Avis offer a shuttle to/from all the Disney resorts? I was just planning on walking to the Hilton from DTD, but if they have a shuttle, that would be even better.

You have to call ahead of time to arrange for the shuttle, but they should pick-up at any Disney resort.

I think we're renting round trip, not sure yet.

You will want to make sure you rent from a company with a shuttle to a nearby port location then. Just to make life as easy as possible.

I just hung with the conceirge at WL. They suggest a luxury van from Mears. She told me there isn't a company that services WDW that has a drop off at the port. Is that true?

i think Hertz, Budget and Avis have shuttles to and from the port and are fairly close by. Hertz has a rental desk at Shades of Green on property. Disney cruise forum will give you definite info on the best rental agency locations to the port. A private car/van service would be an even better, less hassle way to go.

Not true! As mentioned above, Avis, Budget, and Hertz will pick-up from WDW resorts and take you to their offices in the WDW area. National and Alamo on-site (at the Car Care Center and the Dolphin) don't have rental car locations near the port.
