She should be well off then...glad to hear she sorted out what to get. The A500 is definitely much more than $50 better than the A390! And as a side bonus to help her get used to using a DSLR, she's got the best live view system available on a DSLR - she may like using it until she gets better with general photography understanding and such. If she has any issues or questions, tell her to pop onto the 'Sony' shooters thread here on the photography form, or post for her, and some of us with the camera might be able to help.

Thanks again Kat. I'm excited and it's not even my camera! I already told her how nice you guys are. She couldn't believe how great everyone was to quickly offer advice and opinions yesterday. Maybe I'll have her posting on your thread soon!

Well, my friend is the decisive sort...... She called today to say she ordered the Sony A500 with the 18-200!

I have this camera and I love it!!! I just got back today from a National all-star cheerleading competition in New Orleans and got some fantastic shots with this camera. It has a quick shutter and preforms pretty well in low light. I hope she enjoys it a lot. She may want to get David Busch's book on the Alpha 500 and 550. It will help her get started.
