Hi All... you guys have helped me soo much with Freebies, Coupons, & Discounts and now I need some more help - I am getting ready to go on our 1st back to school shopping trip - my DD starts Kindergraten the Middle of August, I am super excited (we actually bought her a pair of shoes last night after she tried on like 75 pairs of shoes she picked a pair she liked best....) and I really want to make this a special time for her and I and make it a tradition... I am NOT much of a shopper or "in style" and I need help finding coupons and such for our shopping trip that will hopfully happen this weekend... :) THanks soooo much

ALSO there are coupons and discounts to buy on ebay - like $20 off on Gymbroree etc are these ligit or should I pass on them they cost about a buck or so...

I think it's great that you want to establish traditions with your daughter but I wouldn't go all out just yet. Kids are becoming fashion concious/obsessed at younger and younger ages. I suggest getting her a couple of nice outfits to get her through and then do your big spree after school starts when she knows what the other kids are wearing. You'd hate to drop a fortune and then find out it wasn't the 'in' thing.

oh yes she is very "in" LOL... she informed me the other night that all her clothes are "LAME" and she needs something more "Fashionable" - I about died... she is ONLY 5... LOL... so I am letting her do more of the picking then I used to and I guess I will ahve to live with it... :)

I second the advice to let her pick out 2 or so outfits before school and otherwise, wait and shop after she's seen how the other kids are dressing - she may want different clothes. Also, I think you'll see better bargins on the back to school clothes in Aug than right now.

But, Children's Place does have coupons out for 15% off - good through the end of July I think (I'm not home right now to look at it). I have an extra if you'd like it and shop there, just send me a pm.

You can get a 20% off Gymboree coupon in Parents Magazine, Good housekeeping, or Oprah -august issues. They are currently having a gymbucks sale and you can buy these online for a few $$. This gives you $25 off a $50 purchase. (you cannot use the 20% coupon and a gymbuck coupon at the same time) If you wait a week or two Gymboree is supposed to be having it's back-to-school sale where the big girl clothes are at $10, $15, and $20 prices. You can use one of the 20% off coupons at this time too!

Happy shopping!

Also, Old Navy has a website oldnavyweekly.com where you hunt for coupons. It is usually possible to find at least a 10% or 20% off coupon.

You can save a lot if you wait until school actually starts....at end of Sept/Oct, the BTS clothes will be marked down to make way for Christmas stuff, and chances are you won't need warmer clothes until then. This is particularly true of The Childrens Place. You can also sign up to get a rewards card at TCP for coupons. Shopping at Kohl's w/a % off coupon (sent to Kohls cardholders) can offer savings, especially if there is already a decent sale or markdown. Also, keep an eye on JC Penney for markdowns after initial Back to School is over.

When you are out shopping w/your daughter, you may want to have her try pants /outfits in favorite stores....the clothes in each store may run big/small and she may be different sizes in various stores.

Happy shopping!!

Kohls, Macys, Fashion Bug, Penneys, and many others send coupons by mail at random. I rarely shop without a coupon. Macys coupons show up in the local papers often.

Kohls may still be giving $5 coupons for signing up for their emails.

At that age I usually picked out say 5 dresses or outfits that was in my price range then the DD's got to pick which 2 or 3 they liked from that. Once when my DD's was like 7 an 8 1 of their teachers told me my DD's didn't get enough choices picking things out. I seen her at the mall in the Sears store a few weeks later she left her 5 yr old in the clothing department to pick out her own clothes an go try them on an was told to put what she wanted on the counter I just had to stay an watch this from a distance.

Nobody was there to check if clothing fit properly if clothing matched or was within moms price range. More than an hour later Mom came back asked the kid if she was done kid said I got one more thing to try on. Mom had the cashier start adding up the purchase with this I just had to move closer an pretend to be shopping. The grand total was over 500.00 this was 20 yrs ago. Mom looked at the kid an said I hope this holds you till next month for your birthday when you get to go clothes shopping again.

I was totally shocked an figured I might be to bossy with my own DD;s but they was learning the limits of not over spending etc an that little 5 yr old was either gonna learn the word NO at 15 or her mom would be bankrupt.

Back on topic.... clothing can be bought a little at a time. School supplies are at their cheapest right before school starts usually within a month of school starting. Buy all you need then an maybe a little more that stuff never goes on sale as cheap an very rarely on sale once school starts at all. The same notebooks I buy in August for 8 cents a piece are more than 1.50 the rest of the year. Same with pencils, crayons etc.
