We've been to Disney three times over the last 15 years but the last trip we split between Disney and Universal and guess what? Our trip this year is all Universal except one day, when we will go to just the Magic Kingdom. If it was our decision we would not even go the one day - we let our grandson (11), who has never visited Orlando, decide where he wanted to spend his time. He visited both websites and choose Universal. We then decided to throw in the one day at the MK so he gets a sample of both parks.
I agree with everyone on this post - both parks are different, both are special in their own way. Disney is magical the first time you visit, but that magic feeling wore off pretty quickly for me, replaced by jostling crowds, long waits, and miles of walking. Universal's two parks are compact, and the FOTL cannot be beat. That alone makes Universal more appealing to me.
