DH and I are having a 2nd home built in Florida. We can see the back of MK from where our house will be. The house should be built by April and we will need to buy EVERYTHING!!!!!

I looked at Walmart, Kmart, Target, Linens n' Things, Bed Bath and Beyond online for the small things..

Does anyone have ANY advice on where to go to buy Bedding and Bath for Non Wallet Busting prices?? I couldn't believe some sales items were will $200and up... :scared:

We are looking into DirectBuy for the Furniture.. We know it costs like $2,000 just for a year membership but when you think about it, we NEED a whole entire house of Furniture so it should be worth it.. Has anyone tried it??

PLEASE help me!!!!

Thank You:hug:

Ikea
Yard sales and thrift stores, I've had a lot of luck buying furniture and refinishing it and/or recovering it.

A new home just outside MK? I'm soooo jealous! If you let me stay there sometime, I help you paint and refinish furniture. :goodvibes

DH doesn't like Ikea... it is too modern for us... we have an old victorian home now over 140 years old.. We don't want to do victorian.. but maybe something less modern then Ikea...

We will have 3 spare bedrooms... you can paint and decorate the one you will stay in when you visit.. :rotfl:

do you believe... ive never been to garage/ yard/ sales.. :confused3 can you really get good bargains?

Aren't the White sales supposed to start up this month? I've gotten some good deals during the White sales. Good luck!

Oh, you can get really good deals at yard sales.

I'm with you, I don't care for Ikea, but it's very popular, and I know inexpensive. You can get a lot of kitchen and organizing stuff there though, very inexpensive.

FABULOUS!! :cool1:

There is a lot of junk, but there are a lot of nice pieces. I picked up an old drop leaf secretary desk for $15 at a garage sale. I removed the ugly hardware, stripped and and refinished it and put on new hardware (supplies cost me $20) and it looks like a brand new piece that is currently selling at Pottery Barn for $750.

Of course, it depends on how much work you want to do. I enjoy that kind of thing, like a hobby, so I'll spend a whole day "garage saling" and have projects for 3 months. I understand that some poeple might not find that appealing. I have an entire storage area filled with accent furniture and decorative accessories for staging homes when I take a listing.

That remimds me, check out TJ Maxx, Ross and Marshalls (and other stores like that) for less expensive decorations, towels, bedding, etc that are still of good (name brand) quality.

My friend has it and said it was the biggest waste of money.
You're limited to the places you buy from.
She went to Costco and saw the same blender for $15.00 less then she
bought it through Direct Buy retailers.

Direct Buy fees vary widely by location-the location I joined was a two year membership minimum. As mentioned by a previous poster, sometimes the things you want are NOT available through them.

Is this a vacation home? I would look at Sam's Club, Costco, etc. for furniture - they usually have several pieces in stock and many more on their websites. Otherwise, I would check... maybe at NC furniture dealers.

Estate sales and flea markets can find you some good stuff too, but you have to get there really, really early. If you sleep in and go at noon, its a bunch of junk left. Good luck. Do I make my reservations through you or your husband? :rotfl2:

Check out West Point Stevens (think it's still called that) for linens. They have outlets, usually in those big outlet malls (like the ones on I-Drive). They are actually headquarted about thirty miles up the road from me, so I tend to drive up to that "outlet" store rather than hit the nasty one we have here in town. I like them because they carry the Ralph Lauren 100% cotton high thread count linens, plus, although we have a king sized bed, we use 4 standard size pillows, so sheet sets don't work for us. I can usually pick up a set of king sheets with two sets of standard cases, 250 thread count or so for <$200. I know that sounds high for seconds, but these things last forever! Here's their website:

I have to echo my jealousy, I'm familiar with the area that you're talking about, our GPS always routes us in through the "back door" to MK when we stay over there, it's so fun passing the monorail barn and all that. :)

I've gotten some great things from Overstock.com, and you can't beat their shipping rates. :thumbsup2

I second the Sam's idea. We bought our DS's bedroom furniture there (queen sized sleigh bed, nightstand, and chest) for 1100.00 It is a very good quality and beautiful.

For bedding ideas, you may want to look at overstock.com They have some great deals!

Also, how about TJ Maxx or Marshall's?

I'm not a fan of modern at all, but Ikea does have things that don't fit into that category.

Here are a few examples:

I totally understand not shopping at a store on principle, but if you're open to Ikea there are some inexpensive, non-modern choices.

Hey, soon to be neighbor! I moved very little when we moved from Missouri to Florida. I bought several pieces of furniture online and had them delivered after our move. I purchased most of my linens from Pennys. They have sales all the time.

If there is anything in particular you are searching or, let me know and I'll try to point you in the right direction. Good news! Withing the next six months, the new mall at CR535 and Stoneybrook should start opening stores. They are really making progress. I would really be surprised if there isn't either a Home Depot or Lowes there.

THANK YOU ... THANK YOU... THANK YOU !!! Everyone... I looked into Linens n Things and they had some Great deals on Clearance.. :goodvibes

( Wonder ) As for Reservations... It's first come first serve.. So come early.. and bring Coffee... :surfweb:

I dont have a membership to Costco.. I have one for BJs wholesale club here in Jersey.. Not sure where there are more.. I dont know if they have furniture.. I guess I will look them up online..

Sam's Club.. hmm... are they in Florida? We dont have a Super Walmart near us.. Are they the same thing?? :confused3

I don't have any advice, I just request that I have a view of the fireworks from my guest room! :rotfl:

For inexpensive furniture I would try a place like Slumberland. Their quality is so-so but since it won't be used all the time it should be great. Ashley is another place for inexpensive furniture of ok quality for your purposes--many of their lines look like antiques or at least are not modern looking-probably exactly what you are looking for. For Linen's, I have gotten some of the nicest sheets at KMart and Target, WAY better then my expensive sheets actually. I can usually find some nice 100% cotton sheets at Kmart or Target on clearance for under $20 for a king set. I have some on our bed right now and they are SOOOOO nice, soft and comfy.

I would also shop estate sales in Florida. I would assume given the elderly, wealthy population that there have to be some great buys at estate sales in and around Orlando/Fort Myers, etc.

well I was thinking more about coffee and desert on the front porch looking out onto the lake and watching the fireworks from there... :goodvibes

We have a BJ's on Osceola Parkway near John Young, which is not far from where you will be moving. There is also a Sam's Club in the area... it's owned by WalMart, but not quite the same. It's a wholesale club like BJ's.

Glad you're moving to the area.... you'll love it here!
