So as of now we have reservations for Garden Grill on a day that we planned on going to Hollywood Studios...we had planned on hopping over to Epcot and then hopping back over to Hollywood Studios again. Is this going to eat up too much time? Should we just try to go to Mama Melrose in Hollywood Studios?

Is that your only day at HS? I could see that eating up a lot of your time, but if you really want to eat there you might as well go for it. I guess it depends what you want to accomplish at HS.

It will take a lot of time to do that. If you walk, it will be at least 20-25 minutes from HS to the IG and another 5-10 minutes to the Land.
Depending on how you time it, the boat could be faster or slower. A bus from HS to EPCOT might be faster, depending on how long you have to wait for a bus.
Personally, I would eat at Moma Melrose instead.

It is our only day at Hollywood Studios. We plan on going there another evening. We are hoping to be there 1 day and 2 evenings/nights.

I personally wouldn't do it if you are going back and forth. The only way I would do it would be by starting at Epcot and then heading to HS right after and doing the rest of the day there. I feel like that would give you enough time to do everything there you want to do if you use FPs at HS and do those other 2 nights there.

That will eat up a substantial amount of your time but I would research more before eating at Mama's. We had a disastrous meal there in early June (maybe we caught them on a bad day?). If you stay at Hollywood have you checked out SciFi or 50's? The theming at SciFi is incredible and if you go to 50's try the chicken.

Thanks.... I feel like I have read mixed things about Mama Melrose.

I agree with this. Sci fi was so fun to eat at and we thought the food was good. If you want quick service we thought backlot express was good

Ooof, I wouldn't do that. It takes up so much time to park hop. I personally love 50's Prime Time in DHS for lunch! Fried chicken or meatloaf are my favorites and the milkshakes are amazing.

If you're not planning on being at Epcot for more than a meal, I'd stick with something inside HS. Not a huge fan of Mama Melrose, but we like Sci Fi for the atmosphere (but have found it's best to stick to burgers) and Brown Derby is our fave in the park for food.

I don't think it's a terrible idea to hop to Epcot and back, actually, because (1) HS is going to be INSANELY crowded for Toy Story Land, so a few hours break might be useful to restore sanity; (2) HS is a half day park for us, and I don't see that changing too much post TSL; there is just not that much to do there we are interested in; (3) we prefer the HS entertainment (star wars or fantasmic) to Illuminations, so would definitely go back to HS for that.

That said, if you are wanting to go to Garden Grill for the characters, Hollywood & Vine is a nice character buffet in HS that has mickey and friends at lunch and dinner. Alternatively, you could hop to Epcot but in the world showcase near the international gateway, which would be less of a detour than going all the way to Garden Grill at the other end of the park.
