I've never been to Flordia in January before. What do you think I will need to pack for my 2 year old. If I pack pullovers and t-shirts will that be sufficent or will he be cold without a jacket? Don't want to pack the whole house, but don't want to be unprepared, any suggestions...

Thanks...

January can be chilly, so I would make sure to bring stuff to layer and a jacket. Even though it's Florida, it can get pretty chilly. For example, today it was in the 50's.

I am going on Sunday and they are pretty chilly right now.....65 during the day and 40 in the evening, So I am dressing and packing in Layers, I am from here so I know the routine....Sweatshirts and sweatpants, or Jogging suits, the ones with jackets, I put a onsie and a t-shirt then the jacket or sweatshirt....If it warms up I just take off the jacket... For those really cold nidhts I will be taking gloves and a hat.....hate to have my baby's hands so cold....Just think layers but I would bring a jacket........ princess:

Thanks! I was thinking layers. 65 during the day would be warm to me!

Just back with a 2 year old and DH laughs and says that he thought I packed EVERYTHING she owned!!! But it was needed!!! She wore long sleeve shirt and jeans in the morning, shorts and thin pants and t shirt durning the day, and hat, gloves, the works at night!!

Just returned and I have to say it was COLD. We are used to cold weather (it was 16 when we left Ohio) but we were greeted with a cold, rainy snap while we were there. 2 of the 4 days were almost constant sprinkles/drizzle. Not to worry though- we still had a magical time. The girls hardly noticed the rain and cold.

Luckily we had gloves, hats, scarfs and mid-weight coats since we were leaving cold weather. I never thought we would actually use them while we were there!! I found a fleece and scarf/mittens to be perfect with my turtleneck.

I packed turtlenecks, fleece layers and more fleece for all and I am glad I did. I wish we would have packed a few other things:

-ponchos or better yet windbreakers with hoods. Our Mickey ponchos, though very cute in the pictures, were $7 each. (I saw some at Target in the dollar section prior to leaving and kicked myself as soon as the drizzle started)

-A blanket to cover our little one while strolling along after dark. Many people had strollers covered with a blanket.

-More "travel friendly" snack foods for the little one. She hardly ate anything in the parks and when we wanted fruit, cheese, etc we really had to look for it since not every restaurant/counter service had it.

Hopefully you will have sunny Florida weather but good idea to be prepared for anything.

PS- we watched the weather every day and they were wrong most days, even when watching in the morn prior to leaving for the parks. Lockers are only $5 a day so we took layers of clothes, mittens, and such and just stored them until we needed them...Hope this helps!!!!!! most of all, HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, you gave me some great tips...I was really debating on those rain ponchos, since I didn't think it would rain much there in January. But I might go ahead and get them anyways.

Just returned last night. It was suppose to be in the upper 60's, but you couldn't prove it by me. The north wind was downright chilly, and once the sun went down..cold. Seeing as it was only 5 at home, I shouldn't complain, but we never wore the shorts I packed, and ended up wearing the stretchy gloves that I threw in "just in case." Wore a sweater and a jacket every day.

It also was rainy two days while we were there. While they weren't total wash outs, that constant mist made you feel cold. Rain gear was a lifesaver.

Have a great trip!

Definitely bring a variety of clothing and ponchos. We just got back and DD (2.5) wore everything from shorts to a parka with mitts. Plus she wore her poncho most days overtop. The weather can change drastically from daytime to evening. We never left without our ponchos. They're lightweight enough you can just throw them into a backpack and you'll never notice. Even if it's not raining, you might appreciate them (of course we didn't have them with us) if you go to Sea World - got soaked by Shamu- and on rides like Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids. I used to think people that wore them on those rides were "missing out" but when it's cold outside, being cold and wet just isn't much fun. Enjoy!

We went in February last year. I would bring clothes to layer in. I would leave pajamas out of your suitcase & pack sweats. If your child falls asleep in them you don't have to change them when you get back to the hotel! I would make sure you have a hat & gloves too! We layered sweats w/ lighter jackets and it worked great! Camping hand warmers can come in handy for parades and shows like fantasmic at night. You might want to buy them once you arive just to make sure there are no problems w/ security at the airport. Have Fun! :cool1:

We just returned from a week at WDW. While we were able to strip down to tee-shirts one or two afternoons, it was only for a brief hour or so. Mornings and evenings were COLD (39 degrees when we packed up the car early in the morning!!!). We wore winter coats, mittens, and hats on all but one evening. Please don't be like the determined mother we saw on the Boardwalk Tuesday morning who had dressed her 3 young girls in sandals, mini-skirts, and tee-shirts. Those kids were so uncomfortably cold looking it made me shiver inside my LL Bean coat and leather gloves!!

We mainly packed our son with coordinated outfits for each day and a few spares. I buy sets at Babies R Us, so everything has a matching top and bottom. I also brought two sweatshirts jackets, two lap blankets, and a thinner type of track jacket. There were a few extremely cold nights Christmas week. We layered sweatshirts and the seat jackets, blankets for his legs in the stroller and then I had to use his socks as mittens becuase his hands were getting cold. I wish I had packed a hat and mittens-it got very chilly some nights and we were not prepared. :cold: My DH had to buy a Disney sweatshirt jacket as well because it was so much colder than what we had planned for. If we were ever to go during the winter again, I would pack warmer clothes-Just In Case. I am going to assume that January could be the same for you.
