I know iPhones have been discussed over and over... but I was hoping for some opinions. I've been trying to be as frugal as possible lately with x-mas coming and things just being tight, so this is a big decision for me. My DH does not care which I get, so it's all up to me.
So here's the ?:
I can get an iPhone 4 16 GB for 199.00 new
iPhone 4 32GB refurb 249.00 (not leaning towards this one)
iPhone 3Gs 16 GB refurb. 99.00

I know there is something like you can get the software for the 3Gs to match the 4. Someone also told me that the battery is much better for the 4 which is a big plus for me.

What's your opinion?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I would spend the extra money on the iPhone 4. I have a 3G and I have a LOT of problems with the new firmware & software. I would also suggest that you set aside some money to buy Apple Care before your warranty runs out. I regret not buying it and am now dealing with a phone that is somewhat disabled. I have to reboot the phone many times a day just to get service. I love my phone (in general) but my particular unit is on my last nerve. If I had the extended Apple Care warranty I would have had a working phone for the last couple of months.

I am waiting for a definitive announcement on the Verizon iPhone. I am out of contract right now and can change carriers. I think that AT&T got slammed with the number of iPhones and their network was not ready to keep up. I have sketchy service, at best, at WDW when it gets really busy.

Go for the iPhone 4. I had the iPhone 3 and downloaded the software and it slowed the phone waaaaaay down!

Dh now has my iPhone 3 and I got the 4. Love it!!! Better camera, much better battery life and faster! (I would stay away from the refurbs but thats just me)the iPhone 4 base model gives you 16gb compared to the iPhone 3 which gives you 8gb and dh already has it all filled up!

Definitely worth it to spend the extra $100 and get a faster, bigger phone with better battery life and camera.

Go for the Iphone 4 - definitely better than the 3gs, but don't get the Apple care extended warranty. For an extra $23 more than the apple care warranty, you can get a square trade warranty that also covers accidental damage.

What kind of phone do you have now? We traded in our Iphone 3gs 32gb at Radio Shack and got $235 each towards the new Iphone 4. They take all kinds of phones.........

I agree 100%. I have the iPhone 4 and I love it.

This is NOT a referral link, just the link to the site. Look at some other places for a discount coupon. If you find a 30% off one it will take the warranty down to $94 for 2 years.

You might want to look at what it takes to get the phone serviced under that warranty. With Apple Care you can just go to your local Apple Store and have it fixed or replaced. I wouldn't want to purchase anything where I had to send my phone out to be fixed. Of course, if you don't like near an Apple Store then it's all the same.

I have also read some not-so-complementary reviews of Square Trade when it comes to servicing TVs (my current pre-purchase homework).

From Squaretrade website:

"How it works: You can file a claim online or on the phone. Depending on the issue, we will either fix your iPhone or arrange for a replacement. To fix your iPhone, we give you free overnight shipping to-and-from our depot and 80% of iPhones are fixed the day of receipt. If you prefer the convenience of your local Genius Bar, you can take it there and we will reimburse your repair costs."
