Would a seven year girl enjoy Pal Mickey? Does anyone out there have any experiences with someone this age and their reaction to Pal Mickey? Was he worth the price? I'm thinking of getting one for a birthday gift for a someone who is going to WDW for the first time and thank you all in adavnce for your input!

We just returned on 10/22. We have two DDs 5 and 9. I was going to buy them one as a surprise for the trip but was scared the nine year old would not like it. The five year old saw it in our hotel's gift shop. She had to have it. So we purchased one and headed to Epcot. Our nine year old said she couldnt believe that her sister wanted to spend her money on that and that it was silly. Well we were not at Epcot twenty minutes before the nine year old was driving the five year old crazy wanting to see it. SO we ended up buying another one in Epcot. They went to all the parks with us. Our daughters never once asked us to tote them. They were wonderful. Full of information and funny jokes about the rides and attractions. They both loved them. It was the best money we have spent on a toy in a while. I think a seven year old will love it. Me and my husband enjoyed them too. Good luck with your decision and I will be happy to answer any other Qs you may have.

If my 34yo DH loves his, then I'm thinking a 7yo will too!! But then again, DH is just a kid at heart. I think it's well worth the money for something you can use for multiple trips, especially when they update themselves during each visit.

We just returned from our trip with 4.5yo and a 10yo and both my boys loved Pal Mickey almost as much as I did!! I did find though that carrying him on the belt clip was a pain and we ended up getting one of the water bottle straps that they sell everywhere in the parks for him..... hung it around his neck and it was easier to get him to our ear to hear what he was saying!

We were at WDW for my DS's 8th b'day last February. None of us buy tons of souveniers and he really, really wanted a Pal Mickey on day 1. After some internal debate, we bought it for him and he LOVED it!!! I mean, every day we were there, he checked in with Pal Mickey wherever we went and it seemed to make my son feel very special. It's still on his bed, waiting for our next WDW trip. When I break down the price by number of days, it's like $7/day...and we can keep using it!!! Go for it!

I am also on the fence about getting this for my DD's (ages 7 & 9). Although, I am hearing Nana might be getting one for them. ;)

ps-Missy Brenda, Thanks to you and your Hubby for his service in Iraq. He will deserve a big trip to DW when he returns. :D

Thanks zipbags! As a matter of fact, DH, myself and Pal Mickey will be going to WDW in April for 2 weeks before he has to go back to his "real" job... :earsgirl: :earsboy:

My Mom got DD one last year and she turned 7 the day we left. She loves it, even at home. We just replaced the batteries in it and have it layed out to pack for our trip next month.

I didn't see Pal Mickey until the day we left ! It is definitely something you would want to buy the first day. It was a little pricey at $56, but if that fits your budget I think a 7 year old would love it!

I bought one last summer when we were coming home from a convention in Orlando. We didn't do the parks, just stopped at Downtown Disney for a couple of hours. We've been enjoying it at home and can't wait to use it in the parks in December!

I can't speak for a 7 year old, but I am 32 and I love mine.

Love my Pal Mickey. He is great at home and he is sure coming with us this year :) :)

My daughter loves her Pal Mickey and we enjoyed him too! I posted our opinions on PM earlier on another thread, here is the link. I hope it helps! PAL MICKEY

Have a good day! :D

As MissyBrenda's DH, I can say with authority that PalMickey's are grrreat! :sunny: The info, the jokes and especially the FASTPASS updates make him well worth it. I wish I'd been able to bring him over to Iraq with me, but I didn't want him to get messed up. Can't wait to go with MissyBrenda in April. Maybe we'll see you all there! :sunny:

I guess I am the only one with a negative impression of Pal Mickey

We tried him back in June '03 (soon after he was introduced). We rented him rather than buying him. Pal Mickey never did talk like he was supposed to. We had TERRIBLE customer service at Epcot and MK regarding Pal Mickey from CMs who seemed utterly clueless about how to help us (my only complaint about WDW service ever, by the way). When we passed near places where sensors were supposed to be at Epcot, for example, PM did not talk either "on cue" or when prompted. I remember having to wait in looooong lines at the Camera Shop near SSE, and then at Guest Services, just to have a CM tell me basically that she couldn't help me. By the end of the day DW were joking that looking out for PM was like having a third (albeit unruly and tiresome) child to look after in the parks. We spent more time making sure he was still with us than we did interacting with him! Good think we didn't have to buy him a Hopper!

We will never, ever spend another nickel on Pal Mickey.

Myabe the batteries were going dead on the previous post. Im sorry yours did not work well. We bought two and it was funny cause they would both go off at the exact same time. They worked very welll.

I was really set on buying one on this upcoming trip, but now that they are supposed to introduce PM version 2 this spring, I am tempted to wait until my spring trip. I think I might just rent one for the week on this trip and see how much I really like him. I'll either be dying for one in spring, or it'll be old news by then.

Do they rent them by the week?

PS - I think my Magical Moments pin is a lot of fun too! I like using it as a map in Epcot :p It was great to look down and see it going off for fireworks or part of an attraction (like when it beats along with the heartbeat in HM).
