Help Me decide on Lens Rental

Leaving for Disney and I am still debating on renting a lens. I have a canon t4i and I have the canon 17-55mm f/2.8 which I use as my walk around lens. I have been reading so much about the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and I am tempted to try it out. However, it covers the same area are my canon, the only thing I am gaining is the 1.8 so besides dark rides what is the advantage? I guess I am reading all the hype and it has me curious so any input is appreciated.

Unless you are shooting dark rides, I'd pass on the Sigma.
Supposed to be super sharp, but so is the lens you already have.

If you want a different perspective in the parks, I'd consider an ultra wide.

Havoc...thanks thats what I was thinking. This other lens I was seriously considering is the Tokina 11-16.

I haven't used the Tokina (I have used other ultra wides), but it's supposed to be a great lens.
Ultra wide can create some really interesting shots when used correctly.
Take a look at Tom Bricker's photos, he loves shooting Disney with ultra wide.

I second the recommendation for the Tokina. It's sharp and will add a new element to what you can shoot with your Canon.

FWIW..... I also have the Canon, but keep toying with the Sigma for a different perspective in the dark rides. But if you don't have a UWA in your bag yet, I would definitely go that direction.

Just curious, do some of the lens rental places have the Sigma?

I found it at Borrowlenses.com. I went ahead and rented the Tokina 11-16 this time. My problem is we are flying and since the lens comes in the fedex box you return it in I have to consider packing space. The tokina is reasonably priced enough that if I really love it I may make it my next lens purchase. (my thinking is it gives me something that my 17-55mm doesn't vs the sigma covering much of the same besides it being an 1.8/f)

Enjoy! I loved shooting IASW with the Tokina. It's bright enough the 2.8 will do the trick. I think there's a UWA thread here somewhere too if you are looking for inspiration.

Thanks for the info on the Sigma. I might rent it next time for shooting the evening Christmas parade and for a wider take on the dark rides.

How far in advance should lens rental be setup. I am going to be renting Sigma 18-35mm 1.8f

Is it possible to have it sent to your resort and then send it back from your resort before you leave?

I know you can do that thru Kingdom Camera Rental but they do not have the sigma lens. I know BorrowLenses.com requires a signature at delivery...not sure if the resort would take that responsibility or if I would want someone else signing for it.

They also may not allow anyone else to sign for it. I asked for a neighbor to sign for a rented lens if I wasn't home and the delivery driver didn't even bother to check with my neighbor because the shipper required a signature from someone at the actual delivery location. Annoyed!
