Help me decide on furniture and wall color

We need new furniture desperately. I've picked out the style, but I can't decide on the color. In the store I lOVE the gray, but in the picture below with the wall color I like the red better. I think the yellowish walls are throwing me off because I really don't like it with the gray. Right now our walls are white, but we want to paint.

Which furniture color would you pick and what color would you paint the walls to go with it?

I vote for red furniture, but I'm not sure about the gray walls - gray seems so cold to me.

How about painting the walls tan or beige?

I would choose furniture based on how you want to paint and your overall theme or "look" as opposed to decorating around the furniture, if that makes sense. This way if something happens are you have to replace the furniture you're not stuck hunting for something that "goes". I like the gray though.

Love the gray! You could do so many different colors on the walls for contrast.
I worry that color of red would fade in the sunlight.

I instantly was thinking a very light purplish tint for the walls with dark silver pillows. Might be a little too feminine though for some.

I like the gray furniture w/ the khaki-colored walls better than the red furniture w/ the gray walls.

I especially like the accents & decorative pieces they've used w/ the gray furniture & khaki walls - the rug, the candlesticks, & the two paintings on the wall behind the loveseat. The green they've used kinda pulls it all together for me.

If you LOVE the gray, I think I'd go w/ the gray - if the style & color are going to work well w/ the rest of your home.

What colors are you using in the rest of your house?

I like the sage green color w/ the gray. A light purple would work really well too! Not as a color for the walls, but I'd also think a coral or an orange could work w/ the gray - in some accent pieces.

I vote for the grey furniture and the tan walls because exactly what I am doing in my living room. The wall color I chose has less of a green hue to it than what you posted but its pretty close.

Ultimately go with the furniture color you love the most, but red furniture is not in style at all anymore. And, should you want to redecorate, you will have a more difficult time trying to incorporate your red sofa in with your new color scheme. If you want to incorporate red, buy the gray sofa and use red pillows.

The gray furniture is pretty, just not with the wall color in the photo. A truly neutral tan wall wouldn't look as bad (the one in the photo is more of an olive/gold undertone).

I don't really know what your decor style is, but a color such as Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray would look beautiful (it's a blue/gray/green). It really depends on the space you have to work with on what will look good. Some color choices might be too dark or too saturated for your room. A muted sage green color would work well with the gray furniture, as would pretty much any blue shade (light or dark), or even a very light gray or cream color.

With the red furniture...your paint choices are certainly much more limited.

This is what I was thinking in the beginning and then I saw the gray. If I'm going to be realistic, gray doesn't really work with my idea of how I originally wanted the room to look. In the store, the gray just popped and the red looked a little too orange to me. Of course it will probably look different in my house with my lighting.

I guess I'm going for kind of a rustic Tuscan theme with dark woods and neutral colors. The room is a big rectangular great room (tall vaulted ceiling) with the kitchen at one end the dining area in the middle and the living room area at the other end. Over the cabinets in the kitchen I painted one wall red. So I guess that answers my own question. LOL

You are right... the gray furniture and the yellow-tone walls do NOT go together. And that is the problem.

I, personally, would do either of these combinations.
Either the grey furniture with a red color walls. (just have to be very careful about choosing the correct tone and depth of color with red!)

Or I would do red furniture with grey (slightly taupe, not stone cold gray) on the walls.

If the furniture has an orange cast, that would kill it for me.
But, unless you are on a real budget and are wanting to get a floor-model price... you could find a similar furniture that comes in a choice of many upholsteries!

Bottom line, I hate the yellow-toned walls (I have light gray-taupe)
And I would do either the red or gray furniture. But, an orange cast would really kill that for me. Would have to be a nice shade of red... not orange or burgandy.

Every color has it's warm and cool shades it would be very easy to use warm paint with the gray furniture.

Even white has its warm an cool shades

I think the red looks dated. I would do the grey furniture and red walls. We have "chili" walls in the family room and I love it. A sandy color (similar to the hard wood floor) might look nice too.

I have red furniture and I love it but it probably is very dated (I got my sofa back in 2002 and it won't die). I have it with deep gold walls and I've never gotten tired of it.

That said, I do love the gray furniture but I'm not crazy about the walls; however, I like the effect they were going for with the area rug that is in the first picture. I think the khaki color used on the walls is just a bit 'off'. Look at the green in the carpet. That would be nice.

LOTS and LOTS of wall colors coordinate wonderfully with gray. Go into any paint store and you will see it in their picture samples. Greens, plums/purples, oranges, etc. You can really do a lot right now with gray furniture, so that's what I'd pick.

I like neutral colors for furniture because it's easier to change paint or pillows than to change furniture if you tire of a color. I would choose the gray. I also agree that the red looks dated.

You would do a lot better with the grey furniture! PALE yellow walls(butter) or navy NUMEROUS colors go with grey. If you picked the red you are locked in. I think I am an interior designer but really do love it.

This is the color of the furniture we have now. I really like it, but was getting a little tired of it. It has to be replaced because the springs are broken on one side of the love seat and both pieces are dirty past the point of cleaning. But maybe I should go for this color again.

I could see it with a nice mahogany leather sofa set. But that's not always practical.

I'd do grey because it would be easier to change your room down the road if you want.
