Hoop De Doo's show is much better. The food is about the same quality at both, but I don't like the Spirit of Aloha show at all. Very hokey. I also love Ft. Wilderness, so it would be an opportunity to hang out there.

I agree, although I think the food at the HDDR is also better than that at the luau.

There is no comparison in my mind - I love HDDR!! In fact we went there for dinner on our wedding day - it was an amazingly good time!! The food is great, the show is funny, all in all it's a great time...

On the other hand, I kind of like the SoA show (not nearly as much as HDDR, but it's OK), but I do not like the food at all...in particular the dessert, yuck!

Haven't been to Aloha, but LOVED Hoop de doo...

Was a little weary on our first trip spending two credits on something, but did it and don't regret it a bit!

The entertainment was awesome - slapstick type comedy that our whole family enjoyed - especially my 6yo son. We sat upstairs, and I think we actually had a better view than those right up front.

The food was just our style - home cooked type meats and veggies - very Southern, and really good.

Only issue we had was resolved - my kids wouldn't eat the food they offered, and they lady at the ticket desk called down and found out they could get mac n cheese from the other restaurant nearby. (forget the name) But they put it down on our reservation and everything was fine.

A little slow on the "all you can drink" wine - I only had two glasses in the whole two hours we were there, and had to ask for the second one.

Would do it again in a hearbeat.

Hoop de doo for certain. We always enjoy going back to Hoop de doo. We saw the Aloha show once and don't feel any desire to see it again. HDDR show is just more fun and the food is better IMO.

HDDR has better food and is more fun as the others have said. SoA is pretty tough to stay awake through. My girlfriend and I couldn't help but notice the amount of kids that were dozing off or just not paying attention (something I have never seen at HDDR in the 6 or 7 times I've been there). The food at SoA is ok, nothing great.

HDDR (went one year ago) was more raucous, tacky in a fun way, and had fried chicken that, while fairly tasty, prompted quite a few bathroom visits the next day.

SOA (went two years ago) is very drawn out, tacky in a not-so-fun way, has a few great dance numbers, is outside, and the food is entirely bland but not bad.

Our niece (5, then 6) actually enjoyed SOA a little better because she loves dancing and she found HDDR a little loud.

Food-wise, it was a draw for us. If SOA could get a better book, they'd compete better.

Spirit of Aloha is the way to go. Much more entertaining, the Poly is beautiful compared to Fort Wilderness, and the food is a bit better. The fire dancer at Aloha is fantastic! Nothing like it at Hoop de Do.

However, both are well worth doing.

Cheers!

Max

I preferred Hoop de doo over spirit..with that said, we are giving spirit another chance this September! Both are great fun if you are into it and in the mood to have fun! I think part of my dislike of Spirit was we were all grumpy that night! Although, my 90 year old server kinda didn't help either lol

HDDR!!! I've gone about 3 times...we've always had a good time...heard the other one gets boring after awhile, but truthfully I've never been...Good luck!

Kids got very antsy at Aloha the one time we did it, and we were not knocked out by the show or food.

We do HDDR every trip and love it!

Have done both.....we much prefer HDDR. We had no complaints about SoA but found that HDDR was overall a much better experience. Actually, one complaint about SoA...the seating. We were in the back and had a hard time seeing. The people in front of us pulled their chairs out into the isle which blocked us.....and they did it because everyone in front of them was doing it. I don't think there is a bad seat in HDDR. We had cat3 and loved it...would most likely book it again.

Seems to me that everyone likes HDDR, we haven't don't it yet....plan to in the future. But for our May trip we are doing the Spirit of Aloha, haven't done it since I was a kid. My DH wants to do SoA because we are going in May, but when we go the following January, he wants to definitely do HDDR. Glad to hear that everyone enjoys that show :goodvibes

thanks for all the replies. we were thinking of HDDR over SOA anyway, but you guys have definately made up my mind now :thumbsup2
