We're planning a May trip and taking MIL and FIL. I have Chef Mickey's reserved already for dinner but have been tempted to drop it and go with Whispering Canyon Cafe. As a family, we like to have fun but I wonder how terribly loud it will be for in-laws and if they would enjoy that aspect or come to hate it. They're not exactly elderly - they are 62 but a young 62. What do you think?? Never done either restaurant so wanted to try something new. We absolutely loved 50's prime-time with the way the CM acted out things but how bad is the noise level at Whispering Canyon Cafe?:confused3

Thanks. That's kind of what I'm leaning towards and if it was a trip without in-laws I wouldn't hesitate but am wondering about how the older crowd reacts to the fun.popcorn::

Well, I don't think I'm part of the older crowd (yet anyway) at 37, but I didn't enjoy WCC at all. The food was so-so at best and I thought if was just way too loud to be enjoyable. I'm a mom of 3 active boys so I'm used to noise but this was over the top. I had been really looking forward to that meal and was so disappointed.

Like you, we absolutely loved 50s Prime Time and then my son danced with one of the Stepsisters at 1900 PF, we definitely like to have fun, we just didn't at WCC. Just my 2 cents.

When I took my mom to WDW for the first (and only time) she was in her mid 50s. Her favorite meals were Crystal Palace (either breakfast or dinner), 50's Prime Time Cafe, O'hanas, Rose & Crown Pub and Chef Mickeys.

She also LOVED Afternoon tea at the GF. :goodvibes

Just to give you an idea of what the older folks liked :rotfl:

We haven't been to WCC but having been the CM it's very noisy also, not a quite place, so if the noise is worrying you then you may keep that in mind.

We would pick Chef Mickey's in a heartbeat. We ate at WCC in September and found it very overrated as far as the food. We won't be going back.

We have done Chef Mickey's a lot and just got to experience Whispering Cayon on Tuesday night. WC was fun but Chef Mickey's would win hands down for my family. Both are equally noisy in my opinion.

Well-I am part of the older crowd and Mrs U and I found it to be plain silly at WCC. Didn't enjoy our meal at all and will never go back. Yet we saw a few other older adults simply convulsed with laughter at the straw throwing, etc.
So there you go.
I think I'd come right out and ask your in-laws if such stuff would bother them. Believe me, it can be a LONG meal if you have to sit thru all that and don't like it.

This is a tough one for me. CM is our favorite, we do it twice every trip (one breakfast, one dinner). We also enjoy WCC and do it on our arrival night (gets us in a silly spirit). We just got back 12 days ago, so my opinions are fresh. We are yyoung, but my grandparents travel with us. They always love CM, but WCC was new for them this trip. I never thought they wouldn't like it, and I was right. They loved it, and we had a lot of silliness at our table with our server (which I had requested a silly server). Yes, it's noisy, like PPs said, so is CM. My grandparents are in their 70 and laughed as much as we did. So, you have to know who you are going with.

But, CM is my favorite and WCC is also up there in our favorites so I think either way you are going to have good food and fun. If I could only pick one, I'll always pick CM. It's the only place we have gone to on every single one of our trips...

Have fun!!!

Thanks for all your great input! With much thought, I've decided on Chef Mickey's. We rarely take the in-laws so I'll save WCC for the next time when it's just us... I know we'd have a blast! :dance3:
