I need some advice, and my husband is no help...
We moved to Kentucky a year ago from Nevada, so we are dramatically closer to WDW now instead of DL (Where I grew up going to.) I am very much partial to DL, and have been to WDW twice now. I like WDW okay, but miss DL and find myself comparing the two every time we go. We have a WDW trip planned for September for 6 nights, 5 days with Free dining in a value for close to $1700. We can drive there (13-14 hour drive with our 8 and will be 2 year old) so about $400-$500 in gas roundtrip- plus wear on the van. We will try to eat a meal in the room a day, so I estimate it will be about $2500ish total for the whole trip.

Well, I found airline tickets to Orange county for the 4 of us (I wish airlines were like Disney and kids didn't count until 3!) for $1200. Park tickets for $600, and Hotel for $400. Now, we'd have to pay for our own food, of course, but since we can walk back to hotel it'd be easier to eat at least 2 meals at the hotel (and one being free breakfast) and just one in the park. So I can budget about $200 for food. All that's left is finding either a shuttle or rental car and it comes out to almost the same price, but DL will probably be a bit more.

However, DL has the convenience of walking back to the room- it feels like at WDW we are always on a bus or waiting for a bus. And with a tired toddler who needed a nap/bed- it was hard to keep him awake or keep him from crying. Same boat- park hopping and DTD are so much easier. We have to drive an hour to the airport, wait there 2 hours, and fly another 6, but we aren't stuck in the car for 14 straight hours. Of course, in the end travel time is almost the same.
But, of course, we lose out on having more food for less price, a nice pool, cool Disney resort, and Animal Kingdom (I wish they had something equivalent at DL)

Oh my goodness. Help me decide.
Should I pay a little more and go back to my home park? I'm trying to decide if DS would love Cars Land or not, but as adults we prefer the rides at DL to the rides at WDW. But at WDW we can hire a babysitter to come tot eh room so we can ride some rides without kids, we can't get that if we stay off site at DL right?
Ugh. Guys, I'm so confused. It's getting to the point where I have to make a choice because I need to figure out the vacation days (Florida would be one week, and California would be a different week.) A lot of people don't understand why I love DL so much, and insist WDW is better, but I am very partial to DL.

Thanks for letting me bounce this off you, DH is NO help.

Well I haven't been to WDW but I love DLR so I say come home!!!!! :)

Well...I can't help you but I can say this... I wouldn't think of going on a family vacation and spending all my time on a bus or hiring unknown sitters to come to my room...Both of those things would be turnoffs for me in regards to WDW.

Maybe I am wrong; but everything in your post made it seem like DL is where you really want to be. ;)

You guys are very right... DL is where I want to be, I don't even know why I'm debating it so hard!
I just told DH and he said, "Okay, if that's what you want to do..."

Yay!!!

For about $200 more in WDW, you could let DS2 sleep in the stroller, upgrade to a Moderate and not need to go back to the resort for lunch.

Ultimately now is the time for DLR. Little Mermaid and Cars Land. In 2013 start looking at WDW, because LM and The Snow White Coaster will be open.
