Help me decide about OKW, please

We are starting to plan our 11th trip to DW. Previously we have stayed at:
Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, SSR 2BR with family, CR Magic Kingdom View, BCV 1 Bedroom, BWV 1 Bedroom, WLV 2 BR with family, and the last two trips have stayed at Bonnet Creek a 2BR with family and 4BR with family. We are planning on going the week of Thanksgiving 2016. It will be me, DH, DS14, DS12. We are considering a studio at OKW because we need to keep costs down but would like to stay on site if at all possible and they have 2 queen beds in the studio. We are looking for a more relaxed trip as most of our trips have been with family. We have enjoyed the resorts that seem to be mainly located in one building: CR, WL, VWL. Opinions?

Hi Momofdrewluke,

You've stayed at some nice WDW places and DVC villas. You state you have enjoyed the resorts that seem to be mainly located ini one bldg. As you know, this is NOT a description of OKW. You do say you want a more relaxed trip this time. THAT does fit with OKW in my opinion. I think it is a very personal choice, but I am very much in the I LOVE OKW school. Yes, it's been my home resort as a DVC member for over 2 decades, so no doubt I'm a bit biased, but I also am pretty discriminating in some respects. Here's what we love about OKW:

It is so peaceful and relaxing after a hectic day in the parks or shopping

The landscaping is lush and all filled in because it is an older resort.

The rooms are bigger and IMO more comfy in many respects.

It is a little less expensive than some comparable resorts.

We love Olivia's Restaurant.

We love the "homey" feel to the whole place.

We love that there are several different pools at the resort and always one nearby.

We love that no matter which bus we hop on it will make its last stop at HH.

The buses don't have to stop at any other resorts on the way to a theme park.

There is a marina with a ferry boat to transport us to and from DD (Disney Springs).

We love that we can park close to our villa rather than in a parking lot that could be a VERY long walk away.

We love that there are no seemingly endless hallways to traverse after a long day of having fun.


For your family, it seems having 2 queen beds in a room to be able to save some $$ is definitely a plus I think. I hope some of the above helps you to decide. Some of the things we adore about OKW others really do NOT like. It's very personal. I hope you are very happy with whatever you decide! Happy Thanksgiving!!
