Help me convince my seasick husband!

Leave him behind. Neither you nor he want him throwing up his guts every hour that ship isn’t in port.

Alternatively take a test 3 night cruise on any line, keep it cheap, make sure a day at sea is involved with just the two of you and see if gets sick or figures out meds that help him. Bonine is my bff on cruise ships. A bit of rolling used to be enough to do me in but now I’m good for pretty much whatever (literally my last cruise was bounce off the wall type seas one morning, even the crew were griping, and I was fine).
AGREED!!!! The kids can go in the clubs/nursery, and you can have some "girl time" with your mom!

I would encourage you to consider taking your kids on the cruise and letting DH stay home, if he wishes. In our family, we've discovered it's ok and sometimes preferable to do different kinds of trips - whole family trips, girl trips, trips with one parent/one child, trips with just one side of the family, couples trips, etc. I have learned the hard way that it really isn't fun for anyone involved to go on a trip with someone who really, really doesn't want to be there. And it certainly isn't fun to get sick while traveling. If he is sick and miserable during the cruise, it won't be a pleasant vacation for anyone.

Unfortunately some families aren't built this way, everyone goes or nobody goes....

Especially since OP has four young kids (including a toddler and a baby). Makes traveling to a cruise a lot more difficult.

If it moves, I get sick (I ride the bench at WDW all the time) first cruise (short 3 day) I took dramamine - and slept walked the entire crusie, no fun. Next cruise I was prepared. I went to the doc and got the ear patch. Key for me is putting patch on the night before the cruise to let it work it's magic. Once on board I also take Bonnine to add an extra layer of protection. Worked wonderfully for me. We even had one night of bobbing seas and I was fine. Good luck

I got really bad seasick on a ferry ride and promised i never set a foot on a ship again

in july i take a cruise on the wish :-) and nothing happend and after the cruise we booked the next day a cruise on the treasure :-)

Try it the ships are really staple

See if he’ll agree to try a 1-3 night cruise. Cruise ships are much more stable than smaller boats. I easily get motion sick but rarely have any issues on cruise ships - if I do I take a Dramamine. He could also try wearing a patch, although I don’t like them because they mess with my eyes. With both your husband and nephew, it may be best to try a very short Disney cruise combined with a visit to the parks.

There's really no reason not to take the medicine. I went on my first cruise on my honeymoon and was throwing up and felt like death until I got the medicine from the med center, and after a little time for the medicine to kick in, the seasickness vanished. I now take Bonine the day before the cruise and once per day on the cruise and don't notice a thing. It's nondrowsy and over the counter.

To me, saying you don't want to go on a cruise because you get seasick is like saying you don't want to watch TV because the volume is too loud--makes no sense because in both cases, there is an easy fix (take medicine / turn down the volume).
Just a note that there are plenty of reasons not to take the medicine. For one example, I can't take any antihistamines--I'm hugely allergic--and bonine and dramamine and in fact all the motion-sickness medicines are or contain antihistamines.

But some people just don't do well on certain medications, allergic or not. That's another reason.

I'd never encourage someone to do something optional that might require some kind of medication.

ETA: And, to the OP: There's no need to convince your DH to go on this cruise. Instead, honor his wishes and let him stay home. This advice from someone who would never go on a cruise or on a huge group vacation.

THIS! Couldn't have said it better myself especially your edit 👍

Why spend big dollars to make someone go where they don't want to??? Leave husband at home with 1 and 4 year old and everyone else will have a better time. Then husband can go golfing or to a sporting event you might not care for.

I get car sick but I am absolutely fine on a ship (worked on cruise ships for 5 years only got sea sick 3 times)

My step mom came to cruise with me once, we thought she'd be fine since she's never been sea sick on ferries, speed boats, deep sea fishing boats, but she was sea sick the entire time she cruised so really you don't know until you try it.

I highly recommend a 3 or 4 day cruise rather than a week long for your 1st cruise.

@knlasv - I hope we haven’t ambushed you. There are a lot of strong opinions here. Good luck with your decision.
