We are hoping to head to SSR for a week and then to Vero for the last 6 days of our vacation next March/April. This past year at Disney all our kids wanted to do was go back to the pool and swim. We are pool lovers - not beach lovers, one day at the beach is enough for us! (We live by Lake Michigan)

We (have 10 yr and 7 yr) will be going with our friends who have a 10 yr, 8 yr and 3 yr old. They are thinking that Vero will not be fun for their 3 yr old.

We have traveled with our friends often, but not with the newest addition - the will be 3yr old. (last time they left him home)

I have read many positive comments about Vero Beach on this board and can't wait to go! We will go no matter if they join us or not. But we would love them to join us! Please help me come up with why they want to go to Vero!

I had 2 sons, and to tell the truth, it wouldn't have been fun to spend 6 days at the beach with our first when he was 3 years old. He hated sand. Don't know that I would try to convince anybody to stay so long, maybe just a shorter visit to VB would "do" for them. What I mean is that VB may not be as much fun FOR adults who HAVE a 3 year old.

There's an environmental learning/nature center very close to the resort and there are lots of things to see/touch/feel there, and there are activities for children.

There's the character brunch on Saturday morning, so I would try to include a Saturday stay.

I hope you have a great time!

I don't know about having an active 3 year old that close to the ocean.

He would have to be watched 24 hours the entire time.

how about a trip to HH?

Disney's HH is not on the ocean.

We first took my DD there when she was 4, but she had a great time. There were plenty of fun things for her to do, what with the special little kids activities (I recall a little treasure hunt only for kids 4 and under), and the Princess Tiger Lilly water play area and the playground equipment, a 3 yr old should be well enough entertained. Like other posters, I would recommend keeping a close eye on the little ones on the beach (any children for that matter), as the rip tides can be ferocious. Still, I think your friends would have fun, even the 3 yr old.

how far is it to Kennedy space Center? and is it a day excursion or just a couple of hours?

We were there in May with my two DDs who were almost 3 and almost 6 years old for 3 days following 4 days at WDW. We had a blast! We didn't spend any time at the beach. Instead, we hung by the pool all day. My youngest loved playing on the steps that lead into the pool and my oldest did a lot of swimming. You are able to borrow life vests from Ebb and Flo's (right in the pool area) which can provide some peace of mind. We also signed out balls to play catch with in the pool and board games -- they have games as easy as Candy Land and up through Trivial Pursuit. Also, the Community Hall is right in the pool area for some indoor fun. They ran children's activities all day long -- the schedule is posted all over the resort. My kids liked the silly things -- sidewalk chalk and arts and crafts -- but they did have other things like kickball games and harmonica lessons. Now, I love to be in a pool so being in the water all day wasn't really a big imposition for me. Eventually, your kids meet other kids and they entertain each other anyway.

In the late afternoon, we head back to the room, give the kids a bath and grab dinner, usually on property. We went to Shutters two nights in a row. After that we'd borrow videos from the store (Island Packing Co.?) and the kids would watch and pass out pretty early while the adults enjoyed some cocktails and a few rounds of Texas Hold 'Em!

I think you should go! Six days may be too much swimming time, however, people on this board should be able to give you lots of off-site ideas. You may still be able to check out some of the baseballspring training. Dodgertown is right near Vero. I found going to Vero very relaxing after running all day in the parks.

Just my 2 cents!

Vero was nice and worked for my family of older children since we did Disney World first and then just spent two nights at Vero. With my apologies to Vero-lovers (and I know there are lots of you!) I just can't imagine a longer stay there...I did not find the beach itself to be anywhere nearly as nice as the NC/SC beaches we usually go to (but it was a few years back so maybe it has been replenished since our trip) . Pool had a slide that was ok but the pool itself was packed and the lounge chairs were usually claimed by 8 a.m. I definitely would echo the sentiments of the person who said to check Hilton Head. Maybe i should give Vero another chance but I would WAAAAYYY prefer going to Hilton Head (or just save my DVC points and book a place at Wild Dunes near Charleston which is hands down my FAVORITE beach destination!)
