Time: 2nd week of June (so think "hot")
Cast: Me, DH, DS6, DS 2.
Intentions: "lighter" on the parks, would like more recreational activities (think sea racer rental, surreys, DTD, maybe DQ, water parks, pools)
History: stayed in studio's plenty - we're fine & not crowded. BUT "maybe" we'd like to try a 1BR?

Only 130 points to "burn" (don't want to borrow.)

Do we do a studio at SSR or OKW (only openings) for 7 days, or graduate to a 1BR for only 5 days (similar points.) So give up 2 days of vacation:scared1: for bigger room?

Also - should I try out OKW? We really like SSR... would we miss it? (point difference is negligible.)

PLEASE VOTE!!!

That's a tough choice. We tend to try to go for as many days as possible:lmao:,but it is nice to stretch out in a one bedroom villa. However, the wonderful thing about DVC is that even if you are in a studio villa, you can use the washers and dryers for free, which would come in handy with bathing suits and beach towels to dry. The studios at OKW are nice and large and we do love it there and you did just stay at SS a few weeks ago. If you are driving, it is nice at OKW to park just outside your villa to unpack. I hope that you have a wonderful trip. :)

While I never stayed at SSR, only toured it, IMHO, I'd have to say OKW.
We stayed there before, the rooms are huge, so is the W/D and the grounds are really nice, more "cozy" than SSR grounds, and the biggest turn off to me is that the "outside" world is visible from SSR.

Not saying its not a gorgeous resort - it is, JMHO.

I'd go with OKW in a heartbeat.

I voted for the 7 days at OKW. I picked that choice because I would go for the 2 more days plus I like to try out the other resorts. However, if you like to eat at Artist Pallette when you stay at SSR, then I would change my reply to the 7 days at SSR. I stayed at SSR in May and then OKW in October. I enjoyed both of them, but the counter service food options are better at SSR than OKW.

Based on your "intentions", I selected SSR (plus the fact that you obviously really like that resort).

Based on the fact that you'll probably spend more time than usual in your villa, I selected a 1BR. Be careful though, you may never go back to a studio again!

Of course, we book a 2BR for the four of us so I might not be the most objective person to vote here! :rolleyes1

I picked OKW 1 bedroom. I think every member at least once, should try one of those and feel pampered with all of the space. What a great whirlpool in the unit, and the full washer/dryer appliances, the real dining room table. We've only stayed in one once, but I do have it in my mind that when I book a "gals" week, (March '09) it's going to be in an OKW 2 bedroom.

You mention "lighter" on the parks, and I really think OKW lends itself to that sort of vacation.

Bobbi:goodvibes

That's a tuffie!

Your children are young and it was easier for us to be in a studio when the boys were younger. We had to be with them all the time anyway when they are that little so being in close quarters was not that big of a problem. Now that they are older (8 and 10) and we can leave them in the living area, we get the 1 bed.

So I would vote Studio and stay longer while they are younger. I dont regret our trips in studios and we had some long stays that way. I dont think we will go back for long stays in a studio now, but it worked for us then.

Now for the Resort, Bobbi :thumbsup2 makes a compelling argument for the 1 bed (Im ready to book one because we have not stayed in a OKW 1 bed just studio)

But since I chose the studio, and OKW has 2 beds, I would choose SSR because we had more room when the pullout was put away. SSR also has a variety of really fun pools and indoor counter service (think hot) Also the Spa which I really love.

There is also a good reason to stay at OKW if you have never stayed there you can determine if you like it or not for future trips.

Either 1 you are very close to the waterparks and both have a nice selection of recreational activities. OKW has a Marina (I believe) for SSR you have to go over to DTD Marina though I would probably go over to CR to rent boats because they go faster and you have awesome views on Bay Lake.

Sorry for the flip flopping, but this is how I would weigh it.

I would pick the SSR studio. We have stayed in both size studios and loved them both. But as far as DTD and DQ there is no beating being a few minutes away. and they have better CS in my opinion.

Picked the OKW 1 bedroom, because with the heat, I would NOT do a studio. THe extra space will be greatly appreciated!

I chose SSR studio for 7 days simply because I never reduce vacation time for size of accomodations. That being said we also stay in a 2 bedroom unit for about 10 days a stay so I might not be the best person to ask:)

SSR would be a good fit because:

Great Pools (hot weather)
Location to DTD for nightly shopping, dinner etc
Large resort...wont feel overly crowded if you spend alot of time there

Stayed as SSR this year and thought it was great...we would like to try OKW in the future ourselves because we heard so many good things about it.

I chose OKW 1 bdr for three reasons......

1. You can try a new resort on a trip you will not be on a
commando mission through the parks

2. If it does get too hot and you are confined to your quarters
more you will have the extra room.

3. You can see what the 1 bdr will be like so when your children get
older and you possibly need more room you will know what the
1 bdrs are all about

....BEWARE....if you do get addicted to the larger accomodations this may cause a well known disease called addonitis. From what I hear there is little to remedy this condition....:)

I chose SSR based on the activities you have planned, but honestly I've never stayed at OKW so I think that was a toss up since I also want to try OKW one of these days. I'd definitely go with the 1 BR over the studio though. Especially since you plan on just relaxing, it will be nice to have a leisurely breakfast, maybe head back to the room for a light lunch, you can even put the kids down for a nap in the bedroom & still watch TV in the living room without disturbing them & having the washer & dryer right there for wet bathing suits is very handy!

Is there anyway you could maybe do Pop Century or All Stars for the 2 weekend nights & spend those days as your park days & the rest of the time relaxing at your 1 BR? Just a thought!

I choose SSR 1 bedroom, once you stay in a 1 bedroom you will not go back. The washer/dryer is a must!!! You will fall in love. ;)
