Help me choose new cell phone...

I'm ready for my upgrade through Verizon. I would like the pros/cons and differences between the Iphone 4S and Samsung Galaxy III. I did the comparison on the Verizon page but am looking for real life users of either phone.

I have the Galaxy and my fiancé has the iPhone... I'd definitely go with the iPhone. The battery life is better and it's a lot easier to use. Unless you're into a lot of techy stuff (I'm not) you won't enjoy the capabilities that the Galaxy has.

I would not buy any Samsung phone. I was just having this discussion with one of my friends the other day because a couple of our phones are available for upgrade with Verizon soon. The last few Samsungs that we've had have been total junk-screens die, glitches etc after a year and then you are stuck with them for another year while you are waiting for your upgrade to be available again. Before the smartphone days, I had a couple of Samsungs that were great-now they are terrible. When you bring them in to Verizon to get fixed, they can't even figure out what's wrong with them.

I have an Iphone now and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Good to know. I have always has LGs and that's probably why I'm a little hesitant to try a different brand.

I'm able to upgrade as well. My current phone is a samsung strive. I can get an Iphone 3 for .99 cents or Iphone 4S for $199. I've never had a smart phone so I'm leaning towards the 3 just because I do not like paying for a phone. I know the 5 is coming out soon and then the 4S price will probably drop a little more. I'm trying to hold out until the 5 is released but I need a new phone. I figure 3 or 4S it doesn't matter because I'll be geeked just to have an Iphone. LOL!

If you can wait a few months, I think the iPhone 5 should be out before the end of the year. I would wait to compare with that if you can.

Here's a simple explanation my BIL gave for the iphone vs an android phone. If you want something you're able to use right out of the box and is very user friendly, get an iphone. If you want to sit down and read the manual and play with your phone for a couple weeks before you figure out how to use it, get an android.

He is a techy kind of guy and has an android. My sister (his wife) has an iphone.

That's what I'm probably going to do, but with my birthday coming up in a week, I don't know if I'll be able to wait another month.

If you are gonna spend the money and get into a contract, might as well wait til the iPhone 5 comes out next month. I am sure it will be great.

Another cool thing about the iPhones... other than the fact they are Apple and that makes them nice and user friendly already is the fact it will easy to find accessories and stuff.

I have heard however the adapter cable size is probably going to change, which will render the old cords and adapters useless. I am sure it will not take long for a new set of stuff that is "iPhone 5 friendly" to become available.

I just upgraded to the iPhone and I love it. It is so intuitive. You can pick it up and start using it immediately, no learning curve or confusing manuals necessary. Great battery life, too.

It is not necessary for me to have the latest and greatest, so I went with the 4. I had a flip phone before, so the IPhone is a huge improvement for me. Not to mention, the thought of my phone talking to me (4S) gave me the willies. Good luck with your decision.

I LOVE my iphone! It is magical!

I had the iphone 4s but just ended my contract with Sprint and purchased a 2nd hand iphone 4 off of CL. I miss Siri, but I went from 16gb to 32gb and I LOVE the extra memory! I don't have to constantly delete apps to add new ones.

BTW: I am using the iphone 4 with Straight Talk. $45/mo for unlimited talk, text and data (although I have heard the data caps out at 2gb, which I never use.)

No more contracts for me!

I loved my itouch and couldn't wait to get the iphone - until I met the Razr. My techie ex convinced me to go with it instead, and I'm so glad. My ma has the iphone, and every time I look at it I'm relieved I got the Razr.

Easy to use, very customizable, and far more attractive. I love love love it. I just got the most recent OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, and it seems like it REALLY extended my battery life.

Things I do on my Razr:

= Watch HD movies - on a screen that dwarfs the iPhone. Doesn't weigh more, though, and is just as comfortable in my hand (and I'm not a big girl).
= Play emulated games - with a playstation 3 controller.
= Hook up my phone to my tv to play games like Angry Birds, or my Nintendo games.
= Navigate with Google maps, which is SO MUCH BETTER than the iPhone's goofy directions app.
= Listen to all my .mp3s without needing to convert them to an iPod format; downloaded the free winamp app and used that as well, which I use on my computer and like best.
= All the apps you can get for iPhone are mostly on the Razr as well (plus different ones); I have a ton of them!
= Ask my phone questions ("Where is the nearest Chik-fil-a?" "Where is the cheapest gas around here?" "Navigate me to Jewel-Osco") and get answers.
= my expandable memory puts me at 32 gigs. That will handle everything that can be thrown at me.
= pictures, pictures, pictures! My most recent trip to Disney (and my January TR), I only used my Razr and ditched my digital. Worked out great for me. And I can take HD video as well, very clean clear and crisp.

I can play music all day at work or maybe have a movie going, and then make calls, use the browser, play games, and end up with my battery lasting the FULL day (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.).
