This is probably going to sound totally insane, but have any of you had problems with the fact that the Mary Poppins characters don't look like Julie Andrews? My DDs have the CD and have watched the movie countless times so they know exactly what she looks like in the movie (which is real life to them). I never really thought about this with the other characters b/c they are cartoons. So it is a little more vague whether they look exactly like the cartoon character. But with Mary Poppins being a real person that they would recognize, I wonder if they would be confused to see someone else in her dress calling herself Mary Poppins but who isn't Julie Andrews.

Am I crazy? Anyone else deal with this? FWIW, my kids will be 3 and 5 1/2 and still pretty much think princesses are real so that may help them buy it. But some of these pics I see don't look anything like the "real" Mary Poppins so I wonder if they would think she is a "fake". JJ

I'd just tell them that people look different in movies because of all the makeup and stuff they have to wear. Maybe you could get away with that.

She doesn't sound like Julie Andrews either. When we dined at CRT in January 05 the CM portraying Mary Poppins put on a horrible Cockney accent -- probably the way she thought all Brits talk. The CM portraying Mary Poppins @ Epcot in the middle of March was doing her best to sound like a British serjeant major with quick orders.

Not at all.

Mickey and crew aren't outlined in black either ;).

face characters from live action are tough I suppose. My girls have never taken issue with it, but we don't run into Mary all that often.

and it is true--everyone on TV/Movies looks different in person.

DD 9 didnt think Julie Andrews looks like Mary Poppins!!

She read the book first, loved it, I hear the stage production of Mary Poppins is more like the book...

Some days I dont look like her mom either!! :rotfl2:

But I think I set the tone for the trip - I believe, I get excited, I go crazy, and so DD knows its ok to believe, to get excited, and to go crazy..

I didn't have the problem with Mary Poppins but was a bit concerned about seeing the same princesses at CRT and then in Norway. The Aurora at Epcot, for example, could not have looked any more different from the one at CRT if they tried! So far my daughter hasn't commented on this issue but I'm always hesitant to bring out those pics at the same time.

The Mary Poppins we saw in January at 1900 Park Fare looked JUST LIKE Julie Andrews and even sounded like her- even DH was impressed!I wilsh I could figure out how to post a picture- I will try!

We have just been watching our holiday video and I am amazed that my daughter (4 1/2) hasn't commented on the resemblance/lack of of the characters. She is a HUGE Aurora fan and met one in Epcot and another in the MK princess room. They couldn't have been more different and she didn't twig! She was just so in awe of meeting her that she lost her eye for detail!

Meeting Mary Poopins made me chuckle though as my daughter told her that we were from England. With this Mary looked a little uneasy and didn't speak after that. Perhaps her accent didn't match ours!
