Im new to this so bear with me please as I don't want to screw it up. I will be booking a trip Dec 24-Jan 2 at Polynesian. (my home resort) I am using 183 point from 2022 and borrowing 100 (half) from 2023. I have an august use year. (not sure if this matters). I am still 15 points short. The night of January 1 is 17 points so I'm thinking I should borrow 98 points and book that night on it's own. So should I have Davids Rental book that night for me at 11 months or should I try to get a transfer of points into my account? This is a super busy time of year I know so I can't afford to mess it up. Thanks for any help/suggestions!!!

I'm on the newer end as well but I know you can rent 15 points annually from Disney to fill a reservation. You need to call Member Services to do that. You should book as much as you can with the points you have then call MS to get those extra points, make the reservation for the extra day, and have MS combine the reservations all on one call.

I would try to get a transfer, however you can only do one per year so make sure you buy more than needed (and the owner transferring may have a minimum) and don't borrow quite so many from 2023.

OTU points (24 per year) are $19 from DVC but only available at 7 months so that won't help at this time. Skip the commercial rental and take charge of your transferred points. Good luck!

The safest thing to do would be to transfer in points. They will have to be Polynesian points in order to book at the 11 months period.

I don't know if member services would make an exception to borrowing the points needed for that last night.
If you wanted to see if they would-you could book the first 7 nights. The next day you could book the 8th night and for the last night you could call member services the following day and see if they would make an exception. (But, then you would really be scrambling to recover if they said no). I would probably only use this option if I was unable to get Polynesian points transferred in.

In regards to how many points to borrow--they only let you borrow the amount of points it takes to make a reservation (so, you wouldn't borrow 100 and then have 2 orphaned points).

In your situation I’d see if I could find someone w/ the extra Poly points they’d like to rent who are willing to transfer them to you. Not all owners are willing to transfer because you only get one transfer a year.
I’d suggest you start checking the DVC booking/availability site now just to become familiar with it & to see how fast your desired view is booking - I don’t know about the Poly, but the week you want is very popular & the lower cost views will book first, so best to know what you are up against ahead of time.
Is this a direct or a resale contract? I ask because if it’s resale you may have issues borrowing those points the morning you are trying to book (a known glitch which DVC has done nothing to fix for months now) & have to wait an hour until MS opens then call & be on hold forever. NBD except the frustration of having to call unless the villa/view you want is taken while you’re trying to sort it out.

Yes, that is an issue and a chance you take unfortunately.

If that is the case (a resale contract), I would make the reservation for as many nights as possible without borrowing as soon as the booking window opened. Then, when member services opened, I would call for assistance in adding on the additional nights for which borrowing would be required. Sounds like member services would have to be called a couple of times for the reservation since it is for more than 7 nights.

I agree with this because then you can get them to maybe approve more of the borrowing. I have read that there have been a few times where someone got MS to override when it wasn’t a lot of points.

Or ask them about just purchasing the points you are short. That might be the better way to go.

If my numbers are right OP can book 12/24 - 12/29 which takes 173 points for Poly SV w/out borrowing. They’ve blocked anyone from taking that villa thru 12/28, so they could wait until 1/28 & then just book the rest.
OP with a 9 day vacation even if you don’t run into the borrowing glitch be aware that you’ll only be able to book the first 7 days on 1/24. We typically go for 10/11 days & I always have to get my first 7 days at 11 months & then 3 or 4 days later log on again & modify my dates to add my last 3/4 days. The modify tab on the DVC site makes it easy to do usually & if you run into a problem like the borrowing glitch you have time to call MS to add the last couple days w/out stressing about someone swooping in & grabbing your villa.

You can only purchase OTU (one time use) points at 7 months, so that option won’t work for OP who needs them for an 11 month home resort booking.
