My dear Disney loving friend, age 70 has a trip planned with his children and grandchildren next month. He was just diagnosed with lymphatic cancer and is to start chemo after surgery this week. He has decided to go ahead with his trip as planned and begin chemo upon his return. Do you experts have any ideas or suggestions as to how we can make this trip super special?

Thanks!

My husband has been to DW many times before and after chemo therapy. It's the best place to recover and prepare for therapy! Being in DW is a great distraction from the worries and anxieties of being told you have cancer. I think photo pass is a great option, everyone in the family can have their pictures taken together for future memories, no one is left out. Also, the Grandfather might be more tired than usual, so afternoon breaks would be good. Let him set the pace, and follow his lead. There's also the chance that he might be more at risk for catching colds and the flu while there. If he hasn't had a flu shot, and his Dr. thinks it's okay to get one, it might help. If not, bring lots of over the counter medicine. Other than that, just relax, and enjoy every moment of the magic!

Went w 73 year old dad. #1 rent a scooter, tie a balloon to it. He will need it even if he wasn't starting chemo, balloon is expensive but fun and every one can find him. #2 don't forget shows, great way to take a break.

PhotoPass is a great idea. Eat late lunches if you are looking for sit down meals. Go to a character breakfast at either Chef Mickey's, Ohana or Tusker House in AK. Go to a dinner at the Polynesian (I like Ohana) or see the Hoop-Dee-Doo at Fort Wilderness. Definitely rent a scooter from an off-site company.

My 93 year old father in law just completed chemo treatments a couple of weeks ago and you would never know he had cancer!! In fact, he still delivered meals on wheels to the "old" people. Maybe have a special cake made for one of your TS meals and have it for dessert that night. Take him to Whispering Canyon for dinner the antics there will keep him and you in stitches. Maybe Mickey's backyard bar b que would be great entertainment!!! No, matter give him spending money.. also, make him a shirt, someone on the dissigns board down from here, someone will and can do an awesome design for a shirt!!!
