We leave Friday and I have a cold. Just got it 2 days ago. My big fear is my children will end up sick while we are at WDW and this is their first time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't have any suggestions...but I'm sorry you are sick!

We leave in 3 days, so I know how much you are trying to get done right now.

Use those lozenges called Cold Ease and try to rest once in the afternoon and get to bed early, I know this is a tall request just prior to a vacation. Also, get into your Doc. TODAY, there are anti viral meds you can take at the very begginnig of the cold only. Your children may have already been exposed so, be sure they are getting lots of orange juice and good nutrition. Better check with your pediatrician and pack the decongestants. Also, ask your Doc. about anti-viral meds for dad, he is potentially the biggest baby in the bunch (if he is anything like alot of dads, I know).

Last year my son got really ill (he actually vomited all over me on the bus to EPCOT - that was a fun ride. He was out for two days and I was out for one) Thankfully, this was an 11 day trip but, it still stunk (literally, hee, hee, hee).

I suggest you take their cold medicine with you!! My DS got sick with congestion and cough on our last trip. I paid $8.00 for a small bottle of cough syrup at the resort shop. It was a major rip off but I didn't have a choice!! :confused3

We swear by Airborne after last winter. Seems we dodged at least a few bullets!

Zinc is also good at boosting immunity - plus of course plenty of fresh fruit and veg (try smoothies if they won't eat them).

Three out of the 4 of us got sick (literally) at WDW - I was ill the morning ofour CP breakfast (hey, who minds paying $17 for two bananas and a glass of water - ME!), then DS(5) came down with it two days later (threw up in the hire car as we parked at the shops, then repeatedly through the early afternoon so he and I missed our FDP) then, when we thought we were all over it, a week after me DH came down with it.

Hopefully all the excitement will drive the bugs away though - its a lot wasier to get up to go to MK than to school :rotfl:

have a great time

What is Airborne? I just noticed it on an endcap at CVS this week.

It is a combination of "healthy stuff" put together by a teacher, sick of being sick. My newest order hasn't arrived, and I can't find an old bottle to tell you exactly what is in it!

DH works at a University in the medical school. Sickness abounds, and those docs in training show up whether sick or not. The year before last we dealt with several bugs, but last year I had him start taking the airborne as soon as his throat started to bother him. Maybe it was a placebo effect, but I don't care. Just ordered 5 boxes from drugstore.com!

Good luck & hope you feel better! My mother swears by Zicam but it never seems to work for me. Try to rest & keep washing those hands.

I agree, much easier to handle being sick when the castle's calling! Hopefully it won't slow the kids down if they catch something.

What seems to work for me is:

Green tea
sucking on vitamin C drops (you can find these in the same section as the cough drops)
drink plenty of orange juice
put a little bit of vicks vapor rub right under your nose before going to sleep

In a day or so you should be okay.

I agree w/ the Vitamin C drops - your throat will feel better fast too. And if you fly, make sure you load up on decongestants. The flight and your ears will make you miserable. Drink a lot of OJ and say to yourself - "I wont get sick!" (Even if you already are, it doesnt seem to get as bad).

Thanks guys. I actually feel much better today. I really took it easy yeaterday. I feel like God was prompting me at the beginning of the week to get packed. I have been packed since Tuesday night so yesterday was very easy. I am just going for breakfast with a friend this morning and then coming home to do some touch up cleaning and then watch the clock!!!
