HELP-? late return of rental car

Our return flight has just been changed to 3 hrs later.I booked dollar using the ENTERTAIN code for $150 for an intermediate for 8 days.When I try to change return time on the website the are charging me $270-thats is a $120 increase for 3 extra hours. Has anyone returned their car late?What will happen.Any suggestions???

PS pick up time is at 5 PM we would want to return at 3 PM(original return time was 12PM)

If you pickup at 5pm, they should not charge you for another day unless you return it past 5pm. If you return it at 3pm, you should be OK. You may want to call them with a "what if" question to be sure there will not be a problem. Anytime you go into a reservation and try to change it on the internet, it automatically gives you the current rate.

Each day is counted as one 24 hour period. If you originally were charged for days with a noon dropoff, it will not make any difference in cost if you drop it off at 3PM. If your pick up is at 5PM, you have until 5PM to return the car without incurring any additional costs. If your plans change and you have to drop it off after 5PM then you will be charged for additional hours, or an extra day, but these prices are based on your original reservation cost.
