If you're at the Magic Kingdom, you might try the Liberty Tree Tavern. They have a character dinner that would be fun for boys your sons' ages. Another suggestion would be Ohanas, as I've heard they have fun activities for kids during dinner (have never been, though). Whispering Canyon over at the Wilderness Lodge would be another fun option; the waiters really make meals there a riot!

If you're over at Epcot, you might enjoy the Coral Reef. It's expensive, but you can request a window seat and look at the marine life. Another entertaining Epcot restaurant is Teppanyaki in Japan. It's standard Japanese food that you'd get at any Japanese grill, but the chefs can be entertaining (sometimes they're not, though!). Have a great time!!!

I actually enjoyed the Spirit of Aloha last year. The show is a little corny but the dancing and fire show was very good. The food was enjoyable, I liked the pineapple bread and the salad. The ribs were very good as was the rice. I don't care for bone in chicken though and the dessert was sweet. If I wans't planning a more budgeted trip this year I would do it again.

We like the show too. We had two 7-year-old boys with us and two teenage boys. All four boys really enjoyed it. I thought the food was good -- lots of ribs and chicken with coconut bread and salad, plus all you can drink soda and beer. They had the typical kids foods for the 7-year-olds. The dessert was bad, however, some sweet, sticky volcano thing.

As for the show, I really don't know what it is people want that they think they're not getting. Everybody says it's hokey and juvenile, but can't that be said about Hoop Dee Doo, too? And, there is nothing hokey about the Polynesian dancing in the later part of the show. It's wonderful.

The first part of the show is something about a girl coming home to Hawaii after being at school on the mainland. The Hawaiian girls and men are gorgeous, so what's not to like?

After that, they have kids come up to learn the hula (none of our boys tried it, but they enjoyed watching other kids do it). They also have anniversary couples come up and dance. Then, the Polynesian and South Sea island dancing starts. It's great to watch and the dancers are very skilled. The show ends with a fire twirling. The boys loved the fire twirling.

It compared very favorably with much more expensive luaus in Hawaii (including the famed Old Lahaina Luau -- about $80 per person) and the food, while less authentic, was actually better.

Our group had ages 9 to 70 and we all enjoyed it and would do it again. We live in New York and for us, dinner and a show at $50 for adults and $25 for kids was a great bargain (and I don't use the word "bargain" very often about anything at Disney!)

but we also prefer the Spirit of Aloha to the HDDR. We enjoyed both but we all (and especially my DD 4) enjoyed the Luau more - especially the fire show. I've never understood the horrible reviews on the Luau but different strokes for different folks, right?

We also like O'hanas - it is just a different night from the Luau. The Luau is an event in itself. Ohana's is fun and seeing Wishes from a window view seat with the music piped in is pretty amazing. You will be fed WELL at both places.

If you want to see the Luau - I say go for it! We truly enjoyed it and would do it again!

I didn't find the Luau hokey or juvenile, I just found it boring. Especially the first part. The music is relaxing and I almost fell asleep. But maybe the polynesian dancing just didn't do too much for me. The fire show at the end was kinda cool though. The food was okay, nothing spectacular, but they are serving many people at once. Different strokes indeed!

2DisneyBuggs took the words right out of my mouth... I agree with her in every way. Don't let a few bad reviews make up your mind about a restaurant. I got tons of bad reviews about Spirit of Aloha Luau and really liked it, and got great reviews about the Hoop Dee Doo Revue and 50's Prime Time Cafe and didn't enjoy them at all. Different strokes to different folks as they say...
