Hi everyone!

I just found out this afternoon that my coworker and I are headed to Cleveland tomorrow to attend the Cleveland Indians game. (We're getting the corporate suite treatment, so big woohoo for us!)

Anyhow, in order to avoid traffic we are planning on arriving in Cleveland fairly early (around 3pm or so) and perhaps leave a little late. So, for those of you familiar with the area, what is there to do in the immediate area around Jacobs Field?? Any good restaurants, etc??

Also, just in case we decide not to attempt the whole drive back to GR that night, does anyone know of any decent hotels/motels just outside the city?? (I'm thinking of the Hampton Inn variety)

I know this is short notice but thanks so much for your help!

Cooper'stown (owned by Alice Cooper) is within walking distance of the Jake. Good food.
Also, Tower City Center is close by for some shopping, and there is a food court there, as well.
Not sure about hotels/motels as I live 30 minutes away and don't need one. :)

Sure, if they don't mind sleeping on the couch, or on my boys bunk beds. :teeth: :teeth:

There are dozens of restaurants within a three block radius of the stadium, and most of them are pretty good. There are all different price ranges but they almost all have their menus placed outside the door, so you can see what you might be getting into before you enter. As for lodging, there is a Hampton Inn at the exit of I-90 and Snow Road (10 miles west of downtown, right by the airport). Seems like you might be coming in on I-90 anyway since that is maybe the shortest route for you into the city.

Have fun and GO TRIBE!!!!

Aren't you thinking of I-71 and Snow Road? I-90 doesn't go by the airport.

A good place to stop for the night outside the city if you're heading on I-90 is probably the Westlake area -- a lot of choices around there. :)

Otherwise, the others are right -- there's a number of restaurants in the area, ranging from upscale (Morton's, Hyde Park, Blue Point Grill) to bar & grill casual (my personal favorite is the Winking Lizard). :)

Oops! Thanks for the correction on my lousy directions, Bob.

Also, I'll second that vote for the Winking Lizard!

Another vote for The Winking Lizard (although I've only been to the one in the eastern suburbs).

Walk to West 9th street ( the warehouse district) and try Mallorca's (spainish/portugese) or Basara ( a brand new concept where they bring you all the fresh carved meats lamb, beef, chicken, sausages , ostrich, ect you can eat for $35 plus a salad bar the size of a small house)
around the corner for drinks at The Mercury Lounge for street side seating and take I 90 west to the Crocker Road exit for several motels including Hampton in a nice neighborhood.

Holy Cow you guys are fast!! Thanks a million!!

Yes, I think we will take 80/90 into town since that hooks up with 475 near Toledo. So the Westlake info is GREAT-- thanks!

Sherry- Thanks for the hospitality :teeth: But somehow I don't think "Hi, we're the random guys from the internet-- here to spend the night" would go over too well... LOL. We'd probably end up on the cover of the Plain Dealer in the morning :p

Thanks for the info everyone... keep it coming!

Jacobs Field is a short walk from most of Cleveland's downtown garages and surface parking lots, and it is estimated that more than 30,000 parking spaces are available for most Ballpark events.

With an average of 2.5 persons per car, this means that the available spaces within a 15-minute walk are more than enough to accommodate all the fans attending simultaneous sellout events at Jacobs Field and Gund Arena.

In order to avoid getting stuck in traffic created by vehicles and pedestrians near Jacobs Field, choose an access route which avoids streets bordering the Ballpark (Ontario, East 9th, Carnegie, Huron and Prospect), find a parking garage or surface lot a few blocks away, and walk.

The Regional Transit Authority also offers convenient, affordable service to Jacobs Field. The Rapid Transit provides direct service to Tower City, only a short 10 minute walk from Jacobs Field through RTA's Walkway to Gateway. Additionally, Express Bus service is provided from seven suburban Park-N-Ride facilities. For more information, visit RTA's website @ www.rideRTA.com.

Have you eaten there yet? Didn't it just open a week or two ago?

I've been wanting to try it -- it's the only Brazilian steak house in Ohio!!

My friends went this weekend, said it was great.
same owners as Mallorca's which is one of my favorites.
