I really want to buy into DVC! I go at least twice a year. I figure in the long run it will be cheaper using DVC. However, when it comes to Disney, I can be very impulsive, so I'm trying to reign in my enthusiasm. Help me out, please!

Here are some things I'm thinking about. What are your opinions?

Would like to be near BW or DtD, for the shopping and dining/club areas. Read that BWV are smaller than other locations. Read that OKW has the largest units of DVC. Are they still in good shape or need updating?

Is I buy at SSR, contract goes until 2054 (at which point I'll be 92).
Could always give it to relatives if I'm not able to go anymore.
Or i could buy resale, slightly cheaper. Even if contract ends in 2042, I would have had a lot of fun at WDW.

Here's the biggie. I definitely have to finance the purchase. If I get SSR for $85/point, it would total $12,750. I'd have to put 20% down to get the 9.something financing through DVC. And I read the DVC financing does not go on my credit report.
But I have a credit card with a fixed 6.9% that I could charge the whole purchase to, thereby saving some of the interest. But that amount would go on my credit report (which is excellent).
But I may be able to buy more points resale using my cc.
I have been reading this board so much I'm going nuts!
HELP!

You sound like a perfect fit for DVC. My advice is look at your own interests. By what you want, where you want. Don't worry about the next generation and your legacy. Live your life as you want ans enjoy it.

Just a quick note about OKW. We bought our points there - lowest maint fees, lowest points, and biggest rooms. But I was also concerened about their condition. We just got back from a week there - and I swear the rooms we were in looked brand new! I couldn't believe how beautiful the property looked, and how immaculate it was kept. I wouldn't worry about that a bit!

This may or may not help, but there is some confusion over whether DVC does a credit check and puts said purchase on your credit report. I can vouch as a certainty that DVC does, indeed, check your credit record. As such, I'm not sure that they don't then wind up on your credit report once a purchase is made. Further, putting a high value charge on a credit card actually does little in terms of your credit score as long as you: a) don't already have lots of credit card debt, and b) pay it off in a timely manner. Credit reporting companies primarily deal with your ability to pay on time over the course of years and with the issue that you've not gone past their formula for percent of indebtedness vs. income.

If you can afford to buy into DVC, do so with which form of payment suits you the most. As for where you buy, if you have the ability to be a little bit flexible when you travel, then don't sweat which resort is your home.
