We are suppose to be in the World from the 4th to the 18th of January, however since I am the only one who runs certain applications at work I will be toting my laptop and connecting to our servers here on the East Coast of Canada. I have VPN at home and have great success, dial-up does concern me. What have been the experiences at the Disney Resorts (we will be at CB this time CS is full)? Please bettere than 28.8!!!! When there are conferences at the CS there are high speed connections available to the participants, why do they not seem to exist any where else? I have made many inquiries and get mainly confused answers. Others experieces and input would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks
Marie

:smooth: High Speed connections available at Disney???

I believe that CS and a few others have business centers. Maybe you could do better there than in the hotels. The reason CS might have better connections is that it was built to be a convention hotel and is newer than some of the others.

I will say that Disney is pretty bad for dail up. However, I find a lot of hotels have just bad phone lines. I was at Holiday Inn in South Carolina a few weeks ago where I decided smoke signals would be quicker (and I was only checking e-mail!)

I don't remember the exact speeds we've connected at, but they aren't too fast. It's usually okay for checking e-mail, but running applications would be a challenge.

I think that a few of the business-oriented hotels have business centers, but I'm not sure which ones. If I were you, I'd probably call and get the rates and talk your company into reimbursing you before you go. You may also want to ask about firewalls, since that could be a big problem. You can, of course, test the firewall situation using dial-up by using your ISP from home and trying to connect, but computers with faster connections are bound to have some sort of firewall. I don't know if there's any way to hook your own computer up in the business centers. They probably don't allow VPN on their computers, since it's so risky.

It would be using a secured access through our firewall. The application is a pig and I even have to close Outlook when I run it locally, any hiccup will kill it. I use High Speed VPN from home and it is a smooth as at the Office. Not many options as far a timing, my husband is on a conference at the new Oprey hotel and every room has a High Speed connection included! I felt a Disney Property would be better for my daughter and the kids of all the other Dad's we are bringing with us this year (their first year to the BICSI Conference).

We usually split out stay between the CS and CR but this year with the others comming I thought it would be good to put all the kids on a level playing field and stay somewhere my 8 year old would have as much fun discovering as the others. Oh well, it's better they find out how much they depend on me this way rather than being hit by a bus and never being able to train help!
It will be my vacation!!:Pinkbounc

There is a 24 hour Kinkos out near Crossroads. Maybe you could contact them to see if you can hook in out there. Might be worth the short drive.
