Yesterday I had my ultrasound to check size of baby due to my
gestational diabetes. Due date is 7/6/03 - so I am officially 37 weeks on Sunday Fathers day. They estimated baby to be at 7lbs 13 oz. Yes I know that's a good size baby but my DD was 8 lbs 4 ozs so I wasn't really expecting a small baby.

Well doctor says we should do an amnio to check babies lungs because some times babies of mothers with diabetes are big but lungs aren't ready. We do that yesterday morning. They did not call yesterday afternoon or this morning. I called them at 10am and they said babies lungs are mature. They faxed the results to my OB/GYN. They didn't call me right away.

Called OB/GYN's office around 1pm & left message what's going on. Ran out with DD to get Father's day cards & gift. Message from doctor's to call. Okay now its 2:30pm. Office closes at 4pm so I figured I'd get voice mail and have to wait till Monday to talk to them. NO NO NO. She answers phone and says lungs are mature pack your bags. You have to be in Labor & delivery at 8pm tonight. TONIGHT. Who induces on a Friday night. I needed to do somethings this weekend. Can't we do this on Monday morning.

So here I am finishing up laundry, straightening up the house, packing my bag and waiting to go to the hospital. YUCK.
I know I've done this before but I'm scared.
I don't like the idea of being induced. Yuck. This is some kind of gel on my cervix??? I had Pitocin with DD to make contracts stronger and it's awful. 23 hours of labor with DD ending in Csection. I vote for something a little less painful and a little shorter in duration.

Anybody else want to do this for me.
Have a nice weekend everyone I'll be spending mine in the hospital. YUCK YUCK Double YUCK.

***UPDATE*** Well we went to the hospital but there was a big mix up doctor would not give me the gel on my cervix due to previous csection - increased risk of uterus rupturing. I didn't want to just start Pitocin alone & then have a foley catheter inserted to try to open cervix. So we went home after 5 hrs at the hospital. Yuck. I am still hanging in there.

Doctor's appt Friday morning and we are going to schedule repeat csection probably for 6/25 Wed. I think that's the soonest the doctor I want can do it.

Thanks everyone & I'll keep you posted.

I was induced both times with my DSs too. The second time they used the gel to "soften" the cervix and prepare it for dialation and childbirth. They used both the gel that night, and the Pitocin, the next morning.

Best wishes to you and your new baby! *HUGS* I know it's a bit scarey, even the second time! Next week this time you'll be home with your new baby and this will all be behind you. :)

I'm not volunteering for the job, but just remember that after all the YUCK waits a little baby that will make it worth it!

Don't worry about the size -- 7 pounds is not small and that 7 ounce difference and the second time around may make things a little smoother.

Prayers and pixie dust to you!;)

I would gladly take your place!!! DH and I are having major difficulties in getting pregnant, so I can only wish that I would have the chance to be induced. But really, don't worry about anything, everything is going to be fine & you are going to have a beautiful baby in the end. We will all pray for you & your family. Good luck & make sure to post plenty of pictures sometime in the next few weeks (you know, with all of the spare time you will have with a newborn in the house!!!)

Getting induced isn't bad. I did it with my last two but my last one refused to be born. I just want you to know so you can be prepared just because they induce you doesn't mean you will go into labor. I was sent home twice after trying to induce Danny. No one told me that it doesn't always work and that was very uspetting for me. I don't want to upset you just wanted you to know.

I will be thinking of you this weekend. Enjoy that new baby of yours and check in as soon as you can and let us know how it went!

Been there, done that, way too old and tired to do it again! :p

I'm so excited for you though! It'll all be over in a flash, and you'll have your beautiful baby in your arms very soon. Good luck, and be sure to keep us posted! :) :) :)

I was induced twice with all three of my children...You have done it before, and it will be easier this time. Big hugs to you honey. Please let us know when the baby is home, and how you are. Crossing my fingers and toes for you, and saying a prayer...good luck and hope it is a short labor.

Well, good luck tonight!

I hope all goes well and everyone is healthy....

Oh boy! Talk about a shock for you!
Best of luck and know that before long you will have a wonderful bundle of joy in your arms.

If it makes you feel any better with my second DS I needed Pitocin. My water had broken and I was stuck at 5.5 cm all day with only mild contractions. I started pitocin at 6:30pm, it kicked in big time at 7:00pm, I was pushing by 8:00pm and DS ws born at 8:12pm. So, it can work quick too. I hope thats the case for you. :D

But you get a BABY out of it!!!!! I'm so envious. I miss having babies.

Good luck!! and remember to heeheehoohoo!!

I, too, was induced with no luck. But I just kind of knew I would have a C-section, so that was no big deal. Best of luck to you!!

Sandy

I was induced 2 out of 3 times. Yes, it was a little painful but the outcome was joyous............

Best wishes...........keep us updated.

As I post this, you must be on your way to the hospital. Best of luck, we'll all be thinking of you and pulling for you. Can't wait to hear when the little one arrives.

Look at it this way, if it works out right, you'll have a Friday the 13th baby!! :p

Just wishing you all the best! And just think, soon you'll have your new baby in your arms :)
