We have saved and saved so that my daughter and I can have a vacation that is completely cash. Not even taking the credit cards. I have so enjoyed watching the balance grow!

But, we are leaving very soon and it is time to transfer that money to my checking account so we can spend it. Every time I think about it my heart clenches. I am a frugal person and it seriously frightens me to spend that much money on vacation. I know that in little more than a week I will be back home with my vacation account back down to zero.

This is a very serious post. Please reassure me that it will be worth it.:(

Just remember....... You are making memories and THEY are priceless! :)
Enjoy!

It will be worth it!

Soon your dd will be off to college before you know it!

Some of our best WDW trips have just been DD and I. I know my DD really appreciated those trips, too.

Good for you having an all cash vacation! Are you getting traveler's checks, then?

Have fun,

herc.

Look at your DD's face in that pic!! How could that not be worth it???!!! Just think of the wonderful memories you are creating for her. You'll be fine. You can always make more money. Your DD may not always want to(in the future) go away with you!!LOL;)

You will not regret it! You are going to have a GREAT time! But just a word of warning: You will want to go back :teeth:. Take lots of pictures so you can show us at our next meet, okay?

Krista :wave2:

Once you get there in all the magic you will see it is allllllllll worth it! It is so much fun and happiness!

I agree with the previous posters. The memories you make on vacation last a lifetime- good or bad. You saved up specifically for this trip, so spend the money and enjoy it. My DH talked about how much it was costing our entire first trip, and it was not an enjoyable trip at all. Now I put money aside in a savings account just for WDW, and we spend it without a second thought.

Make memories on your first, promise to return. You'll love it, worth every penny. Now get packing.

That is exactly what I was thinking! My DD and I have been going to WDW without "the guys" in our family for the last 2 trips, and are heading back next month. She is turning 15 in July, and it won't be long before she has a car, job and won't have time to spend with dear, ol' Mom!! We have the best time when we go, and I think it has formed an extra bond between us, sharing our love of WDW!!

Go, have fun, you can save money when she's grown!!:teeth:

Thanks guys! I hope to get these feelings under control before we leave. DD told me the other day that she was so glad it was just the two of us going because we have never gone on vacation by ourselves before. She actually said that we were going to get to do some major mom/daughter bonding. Love that girl!

Hey---its only money, and you will have lots of opportunities to save more in the future. Bonding opportunities and memory building are not guaranteed for the future so it is best to do it while you can. Clearly if you have been able to save the money for the vacation it is not going to break you to spend it.

One suggestion: instead of carrying the cash, why don't you use a credit card and send off a check from your vacation savings either before or after your trip. Much safer this way. ::yes::

I will actually be taking very little cash with me and will use my debit card on my room key for purchases. I would never carry that much cash on me. Thanks for the tip, though.

That is an excellent suggestion. I don't want you to have to tell us that all your cash was lost or stolen. That would be way too sad and horrible :(. At least just get money out of the ATMs every couple of days at Disney if cash is your only option. Please don't carry hundreds of dollars in cash with you the whole time.

My personal preference is traveler's checks - because they can be replaced quickly if lost or stolen.. I would be terrified that I might lose my debit card!

As for taking the trip - GO.. Nothing like a mother/daughter trip to do some wonderful bonding and make memories that will last a lifetime..

And you know what? Being as frugal as you are, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised it you came HOME with money! I too am frugal and came home from our trip in Sept. of 2001 with quite a chunk of change - and I didn't even feel deprived!;)
