Hi Can't believe I am planning again for next year :cool1:

Only this time we will be going Aug (usually go last day of June as soooo much cheaper!) as we are having a large family get together (italian/ carb/ scots) and aug is only dates we can all make.

Last year we only paid £500 direct flights from East mid on 1st july - I have looked at the flights out of glagow on Thomson and they are £999 :scared1:. Should we wait for schedules to be realised or will they be just a much and not direct.

I am looking for info on what others paid from GLA and MAN (or even Gat) for end of july begining of Aug this year. I will then use that as a yard stick as to wither to go with the £999  or wait

Thanks for any help

Do you want to fly direct ? Indirect might get cheaper.

But, as far as I'm concerned, I've always considered than anything below £1k was acceptable for a peak season ticket.

below £900 I'd book without a second thought

we're pretty close to your dates now (2013 fares) and indirect is roughly £1050 and direct is roughly £1250pp

8 months out (give or take a few weeks) fares will probably be at their lowest.
Judging from the fares as we can see them today, I would not expect indirect to get below £900 at the cheapest, and direct should not go below £1000 in 2014

so far these are just ballpark figures, but those are the figures I'd be willing to pay for a july/august fare.

My advice would be to start monitoring airfaires end of august, beginning of september and to wait until the end of november to see how things unfold.
If the figures above seem to hold water at that point, be ready to book if (and as soon as) the fare drops below these thresholds.

(be advised that I'm no aviation or airfaire expert, I'm just answering as if it were for me. I'm not immune to paying more than I should on some occasions :) )

Paid £750 each, flying from Norwich - Schipol - Atlanta - Orlando.
Long day but about the same as driving down to Gatwick/Heathrow etc.
Going Thursday to Thursday as it's cheaper and you have the weekend to get over the jet lag!

not what I wanted- I've not ever paid near that and we go most xmases and every few years in july. Knew Aug would be a bad idea.

Aside Chmurf - whats ur weather been like- We live in near Amboise for most of the summer. Be there in 3 weeks :yay:

right now I'm a few miles from Lille (where you change trains with the eurostar)
Our weather today is fine. Thunder was heard last night, Showers in the morning, right now sunny w/ scattered clouds, and 20°C (roughly)

Yesterday there was a huge thunderstorm over the Paris Area.
Disneyland Paris' Newport Bay Club has been hit by lightning, and guests have been sheltered inside attraction buildings at some point
Roissy airport was also hit with a few people injured

Lots of floods, especially in the south of France. Unfortunately with casualties.
It rained 2 months worth of rain in 2 days.

before that we had a full week of absolute gorgeous weather (30°C and up to 37°C in some areas) but we later paid the price with the thunderstorms which were rather violent

the forecasts does not look so bad. Highs around 20 to 23°C in the 10 days to come. Some rain, some clouds, but a fair weather (I'm talking about the Amboise area as per our forecasters). Not a hot summer (so far) but we had such a crappy spring that we hope for some sun this summer.

We flew last year (end of July into mid August) and paid £515 indirect. We live just outside London and had to drive to Birmingham and flew Birmingham-Paris-Orlando. It was Delta (operated by Air France). Barring any minor miracles, I would say that you're looking £850-£1100 and if you see anything at £900pp I'd take it.

This year we are using Aer Lingus for the first time, MAN~DUB~MCO then flying home from Boston to MAN via Shannon. 1st-25th August cost just over £600pp
It gets more difficult every year in August, next year I hope to avoid and travel May & Sept.

We just paid £1,200 pp economy, Virgin Atlantic, 11:00 Manchester to Orlando.

The 13:45 flight was around the £1k mark. Flying at 09:00 with Thomas Cook was as low as £650 pp! We booked them two weeks ago for 27 July to 3 August, so the prices were OK for last minute!!

Indirect via Amsterdam (I think?) was about 14 hours and around £650.

We booked a FlyDrive with BA (American Airlines Flight)

The flights are indirect via Miami - excellent times though - arrive in Orlando 17.30 local time.

We paid rougly £650 each but had £80 cashback paid by quidco just 10 days after making a deposit only booking. This booking was made on 27th Feb this year.

Our dates are 19th Aug - 3rd Sept

(similar dates last year were £485 booked with KLM/Delta indirect on Last Minute via a Kayak search)

We paid £1025 PP flying direct with Virgin on the 9th August.

We've paid £820 for mid August 2013 with Thomas Cook -direct flight MAN to SANFORD

I went in August 2012 with Virgin direct from Gatwick to Orlando & it was £550 per person, and I think we booked those flights in Jan 2012.

I'm going in August 2014 too and am hoping to get around the same price!

I did a dummy booking in Dec 2012 for August 2013 with Virgin direct and it was £440 economy & £540 for premium, I couldn't believe it!

Im hoping (although my bf is very doubtful) that the same may happen so we're going to look in December for our August 2014 flights! So i'm keeping my fingers & toes crossed!

Hope this helps :) xx

pluto&tink - that more like the price I had in mind- I've never paid more than £600 even for dec 22nd for 2 weeks. May be we should just hold off. Draw back is that my family do not want to do in drect so hopefully I won't end up with no flights

I go every year and I've never paid more than £600 for flights so don't worry, we're in the same boat! :) ive done indirect a few times and although its not that bad, id rather get the journey over and done with so im looking for direct flights too! yeah I think we're gonna hold off until December as when the flights come up in September they may me expensive initially, (may have a cheeky look in sept though just in case!) but if not December we'll be looking in 2014 :) ill try to keep you posted if I find anything! :) xx

I've no doubt it's more like the price we all had in mind ;)

We paid around £2800 for a basic fly drive with Virgin for this August (2 adults, 2 children) Total price came to around £3200 after adding additional insurance and upgrading to a 4x4.

RDP

When did you book that; it's a great price!

Last October. It was booked before we took our last trip in Nov 12 . I saw the price and couldn't afford not to book it. Glad I did when I see the current price for our flights on the VA web site.
