What do I buy .

We are redoing are kitchen and want to buy a new vent for above the stove. I went to a maytag store and the person there could not tell me nothing about the products he sold. He did not care to sell me anything I guess. Has anyone purchased any lately? What do I look for? I am even considering a microwave/vent.

Thanks Tigger

We've got the microwave/vent -- I highly recommend it if you want to add another 3-4 feet of workable countertop to your kitchen. :)

Hi Tigger1. Is there a Home Depot or Lowes in your area? Those sales people seem to be very helpful.
Our range hood is ventless, so no problem at all to install. It will involve some electrical work. If your Dh isn't handy with that make sure to find someone who is. :D

I would also recommend the microwave/vent. When we redid our kitchen a few years ago, we only went with the vent and we kept the microwave on the counter. I would love to have that counterspace back! We have 2 cabinets plus the vent above the stove, so I really can't rip those out to get a new microwave with a vent. Hindsight is 20/20! :(

We just rebuilt our kitchen and went with an "Over the Stove Microwave/Filter". Really like it.

I have the over the stove microwave/fan, I love it. I got more counter space plus I love having the wicrowave over the stove when cooking in both the stove and mocrowave, no back and forth, they are both right there. :D

Another microwave/vent family here. We love ours.

What is the average size of the microwave/vents??

Just wanted to say that I giggled when I read "vent" about "stove"...it's late and I'm getting a little punchy!:p

LOL Finfan!!!! I must be too, because I misread the title and was expecting see an angry rant by Tigger about her stove. . . ;) :teeth:

No advice on your question Tigger; but I do agree with Faith that both Home Depot and Lowes are generally pretty good about helping customers figure stuff like that out. . . good luck! :)

I think you DP's (Dear Posters) have about talked me into that Mic/vent. What is a price range did you buy in? I have seen them in all kinds of price ranges. I also noted that some mic/vents have higher cfm (cubic feet per minute (amount of air that circulates per foot per minute , needed in calculating size of unit to purchase)) . My one concern would be noise ( not noted in info, on range hoods it is measured in sones, the lower the better). I also wondered how it would be to reach over food that is cooking to use the mic.

The counter space would be great. We could always use it. The other mic could go into the garage, the guys would love that. DD would prefer we make a coffee table with a built in mic for her popcorn.

We have a home depot and loews being built in the city I work in now. They will be nearly side by side. Home-depot will likely be ready first. For now we shop in OKlahoma City for Home-Depot.

Actually I found Home-Depot web site greatly informational. I went to kitchen/bathroom and the first screen to pop up was for range hoods. Then it had a tutorial to explain all about range hoods. Now I will investagate mic/vents.

Thanks eeryone

We just put in a Kenmore (Sears) for about $450. It was the top rated one in a consumer mag (that sues people if you mention their name). I ordered it online at www.sears.com and picked it up at a Sears about 10 miles away when the e-mail came stating it was in.

Installation was done by the crew remodeling our kitchen.

The one we got

Hey! it's on sale now! Drats!

I sure what ever you choose, with the help of Dis'ers you will make a good choice.

As to the clerk in the store. This boggles my mind. You are selling products, you need to know about the products. I recently went into a Strawberries to purchase a CD. The person behind the counter knew nothing. I came out of the store shaking my head. I work in a salon, I'm expected to know something about every product we sell.
