hi all and merry xmas...we will be traveling 1/21 to por and after reading so many posts about transportation being so bad to the parks i was hoping some of you experts here can help..what exactly is the best building to stay in and the best bus stop to wait for the buses...we are a family of 5 so i dont know if that matters what building we can stay in...i would like to be close to everything as in the food and buses the pools dont matter much as we dont have to much time to enjoy them...any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks to all who can help me

I was one of the persons posting about the bus system being bad, but please take that with a grain of salt. I just want people to be prepared and take the posts about the busses seriously, instead of brushing it off like I did.
If you want to be near the food court and main building, I am pretty sure building 14 in the AB section is about as close as you can get. It is not too far from the South bus depot about a 5 - 7 minute walk. Hope this helps. Have fun and enjoy POR, it is very pretty at night!!:)

thanks peyjax, i appreciate it..was the buses bad from all the parks or just magic kingdom...

Actually for us MK was one of the easier bus rides. You just never can tell, there seems to be no set pattern, I think the new GPS system they have makes it impossible to figure out. The great thing about MK is it is one of the shortest bus rides, which makes it a lot easier to handle if you wait awhile for the bus. I hope that things go easy for you and you enjoy your stay.

When we stayed there at Thanksgiving a few years ago (not my choice...it was where sis could get reservations at her rate) we really didn't find the busses that big of a problem. What we'd typically do is take plastic bags to put our mugs in (well, ok, that was me since the others didn't get mugs) and leave from breakfast, waiting at the main bus stop. I don't remember us ever having to wait very long.

Actually i've never really found them to be a problem wherever I've stayed. But that could be a matter of perspective ~ I live in NYC and deal with the subways on a daily basis. In theory they're on a schedule, but in reality (and on Sundays) they're not. It also skews my sense of crowds and walking distance. LOL.

And just remember you can always take a cab if things get really frustrating . Most cab rides in "The World" are $10-15, and even if you use this option a few times, it will still be less expensive than renting a car.

We were in POR in August and happened to have very little difficulty with the buses - I think it really depends. We had good luck using the stop closest to our room (East Depot), and the only time we encountered full buses was when we went to the main bus stop. In any case, it is a beautiful resort and I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

It also can't hurt to think ahead and get creative with bus routes. Really study all the boats, buses and the monorail and plan out your days. If a bus doesn't show up for the place you want to go, sometimes you can hop on another and get there in 2 legs.
